What the fuck is up Lt. Reed's ass?

Post by justifier »

Seriously, ever since the MACOs came aboard Enterprise he has given them nothing but shit. He is really paranoid that the MACO commander is trying to take over his job, but from all I've seen the MACO is just trying to accomplish his mission and Reed has been starting shit. This was especially apparent in the first mission the MACOs had where Reed complained that his security team wasn't put on the mission rather then a special forces team for a rescue mission. I really hope the writers are trying to make Reed look like an ass intentionally rather then it just being really bad writing, becuase I'm hoping more and more for a "friendly fire" incident

Like I said in the Harbringer thread
You've got to remember, Reed's father wanted him to be in the military, like the 4 generations before him. There's probably a serious inferiority complex going on. This is Reed's chance to prove that he's a match for his ancestors, and simultaniously prove to his father that his choice of careers was the right one. Now Hayes threatens that by showing up Reed, and Reed fears that he's going to loose his position due to the seriousness of the mission.

Didn't Reed's family have a long history of serving in the Royal Navy?

Unless he was meant to be a Marine I don't see why he'd have so much trouble with the MACOs being on board.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks.

Reed's father was dissappointed that Reed went into Starfleet instead of the military. For Reed, the hunt for the Xindi weapon was a chance to prove that he was the equal of his ancestors, and that his choice to join Starfleet was the right one. When the MACO's came onboard, Reed saw them as stealing his opportunity.

Yeah, pretty much. But he used to be interesting, he used to be a good character, he's British dammit, why couldn't they just leave him British!

There is always the old army/navy rivalry thing too :).

This happened in Vietnam sometimes, usually with commanders of the Marines wanting to show up the Army. I'm sure its happened other times as well.

So, hopefully, this means he will get his ass kicked from here to Tattooine by every known and unknown threat encountered??
"Of course, what would really happen is that in Game 7, with the Red Sox winning 20-0 in the 9th inning, with two outs and two strikes on the last Cubs batter, a previously unseen meteor would strike the earth, instantly and forever wiping out all life on the planet, and forever denying the Red Sox a World Series victory..."
