Enterprise - Third Season Finale and Fourth Season opener

Okay, let's pretend for a moment that ENT does indeed get renwed for a fourth season. First, how would you end the Xindi arc and begin a new season/arc?

I was talking about this with my friends and here's the idea we came up with:

Archer and co. are sucessful in their mission. The Xindi weapon is destroyed and the threat they pose to Earth stopped, though the NX-01 goes out in a blaze of glory, in some huge battle destroying the Xindi weapon, losing say 20 or so hands in the process... the rest escapes in escape pods.

End Season Three

Open Season Four

After getting picked up and rescued, the crew is given a hero's welcome on Earth and there they've enjoyed a few months of R&R while awaiting their new assignments. The NX-02 and NX-03 are in commission, built in anticipation of a possible Xindi attack. But was that all Earth was doing in response to an attack that killed 7 million people?

No.

In secret, Starfleet built a third ship, but they didn't build it on Earth, where the Xindi might hit it before it was complete.

It was built on Vulcan.

Apparently humanity's closest ally wasn't just sitting on the sidelines while we faced destruction, in conjunction with Starfleet, they built a ship based on Henry Archer's Warp Five engine. The NX-01 proved that the engine design was sound, and the Vulcan R&D people, being logical, decided to build one of their own to see how it stood up to their faster ring-ships, and whether or not the engine could lead to next-generation designs that would yield higher warp speeds.

The construction was a success, and it marked the first Human/Vulcan joint venture in history. The design was christened "Alliance Class". With the loss of the Enterprise, the VHC decided to let Starfleet do the testing, with the stipulation that several Vulcans would be added to the crew.

Archer and company travel to Vulcan, where they see the ship in drydock. It has a saucer and two nacelles with a smaller secondary hull, it's smoother and it's painted rich maroon at the moment. It'll need a paint job. The interiors are all Starfleet, and the Bridge, Sickbay, quarters are all built to Starfleet specs so they look virtually identical to the NX-01, save a few.

On Vulcan, Archer is stunned to see that first the Vulcans, who had been holding humanity back, are now sharing technology... and not only that... they're accepting human technology as valid.

Archer has to find out who it is on Vulcan that's championed this-- it certainly wasn't Soval. The Andorians also happen to learn about this ship, and aren't very happy, since it seems like now the humans are squarely on the Vulcans' side.

But there's a new mission for this new ship. --To try and establish contact with the Romulan Star Empire...

And there we have it. We're on the road to the Earth-Romulan wars.

Thoughts?

Good Idea

It certainly is a well thought out idea. Unfortunaltly I don't think we'll see anything remotely like it.

Yeah. B 'n B will take an idea like this and screw with it until it has more twists than a pretzel.

The show is called Enterprise and therefore it has to take place aboard a ship called Enterprise, and if this new Human/Vulcan ship was also called Enterprise, then that means that we'd now have two pre-Kirk Enterprises that everyone seems to have completely forgotten about by the 23rd century.

Or, the NX-01 gets serious damaged and the refit and r/r is occuring at Vulcan; great way to get a better look at 22nd century Vulcan culture rather than just through Soval.

I think that is actually a given, since Enterprise is UPN's flagship and thus immune to cancellation, no matter how far it's ratings sink...

Voyager helps to prove that as well.

Ideas to improve Enterprise - steamy lesbian sex scene between Hoshi and T'Pol, with Trip getting in on the action. Archer takes a cold shower. The Dog takes the helm for an episode, replacing Ensign Token-Black-Guy-Who-Never-Says-Anything (either that, or give the poor guy some fucking lines beyond "Yessir!" and "Plotting course now, sir!").

You KNOW I'm right.

Bah, since that isn't likely to happen, I say give us big explosions and ships on fire. I want a fucking starFLEET, dammit. I would really like to see the Federation start off like a kind of NATO alliance against Romulan aggression. It would be nice to see the Vulcans, Andorians and Humans work together, rather than bitch and moan every five seconds about each other.

That would be perfect. Now let's see how quickly B/B can f*** it up.

Just cancel the damn thing.

I personally believe it has potential and that it's finally starting to get there, in part thanks to tonight's episode, 'Stratagem' which I thought was an excellent and clever episode. I'm just getting tired of all this buildup since the Xindi homeworld was found destroyed centuries earler than it should have been in the season opener. I want to know dammit!

Still, Trek needs some blood letting and getting rid of B/B is the way to do it.

Au Contraire, it is already shifting timeslots (to 2100 from 2000) and has had 2 episodes chopped off from the current season. It IS very much in danger of getting axed, and barring an sudden upsurge in ratings, ENT may have the dubious honour of becoming the first ST series since the original to get cancelled

Then in a manner of speaking, everything would come full circle. Both the first and the last series get the axe by season three.

Yeah, it has a sad sort of symmetry to it, doesn't it? :(

Well, that's what b/B get for milking the TNG's recycled script bin one too many times.

The origional idea is quite good. Therefor B&B will never think of it.

Why do people still insist on doing the "continuity police" thing with this? Isn't it obvious with all the time line tampering from various sources that this can't possibly be the same history that the TOS had? In this timeline there could be half a dozen enterprises before Kirks. The Romulan War might never take place. And thats perfectly fine given the "multiple worlds" theory put forth in TNG's "Parrells".

So please, stop whining about continuity and judge the show on its own merits k?

Okay.

Based on it's own merits, the show just plain fucking sucks ass.

And blows goats. It sucks ass and blows goats at the same time.

I think we're all well aware of your oppinion Spanky. And its pretty well acknowledge that the first 2 seasons didn't go very well. However, thinks didn't all come up roses for TOS either.

The show is just starting to hit its stride and I think its working out pretty well this third season.

In that case, you're either very apologetic or delusional.

You haven't watched Babylon 5 I reckon?

That Xindi-"arc" is B'n'Bs pitiful attempt at a story arc. Of course, they're failing utterly.
Babylon 5 managed to carefully, slowly build up to a war over several seasons, and managed to make it thrilling, exciting. ENT just fails at a story arc...

No, I actually watch the show from time to time instead of reading reviews about episodes and letting them shape my oppinions.

No, I admit to never having watched Babylon 5.
