Kronos One

We all know Kronos One as the Klingon battlecruiser that carried Gorkon to his death during Star Trek VI. I just have a slight question, as stupid as it may sound, but could it have also been the Klingon flagship or was it simply a diplomatic ship?

i don't know if there's ever been any distinction. but since the klingon chancellors were generally picked from very powerful houses whose head has a distinguished battle record, it may very well be the flagship as well. considering how millitaristic the klingon empire is.

I thought it was being used in the same way 'Air Force One' is used to refer to whatever plane the president of the United States is on

Air Force One isn't a specific plane. It's the call sign given any fixed-wing plane that carries the President (there are something like three jets he uses from time to time). It's possible that the ship in ST6 was called Kronos One while it carried the chancellor, but otherwise had a regular name.

It's been a while since i sat TUC so i may be a wee bit off, but IIRC Kronos One was painted white as opposed to the usual green, the difference in paint jobs made me think it was a diplomatic cruiser, however it was still fully armed as shown when it tried to go head to head with the E-A after the assassination.

I don't remember any of that class ever being green. But it would make sense to me that the Klingon government should own several ships that the Chancellor and High Council can use as they see fit. And I'd also expect them to be armed. But IIRC, we never saw what armament Kronos One was carrying, because there was no actual fight after the first torpedo hit. The E-A surrendered right off the bat.

IIRC:

The D7s from the TOS were grey-green (same colour as Enterprise).

The K't'ingas were pretty much just grey.

Kronos One was a K't'inga mostly white with red accents (I think).

Actually, it's any Air Force aircraft (fixed or rotorary wing) the President is on. The name is derived not from the type of aircraft but the branch of service operating it. Hence a Marine chopper is Marine One, a Navy aircraft would be Navy One, and so on.

It definately had a forward firing torp launcher, that was the weapon that was powering up as Kirk went the way of the French Army.

That may indeed be the case. Kronos One could be the Klingon eqivalent of the Air Force One.

Define "diplomatic ship" - after all, gunboat diplomacy requires the presence of a gunboat. As for Flagship, there was General Change - a flag rank I guess. If he was in charge of the ship then it would be a flagship.

In any case it wouldn't "simply" be a diplomatic ship - you make that sound like it's so weak. :P Remember, Kronos One took 2 torpedo hits and didn't blow up (were shields even up?). A diplomatic courier ship couldn't boast as much, nevermind the fact that it was a K'tinga-class battlecruiser.

In Star Fleet battles they feature a D7N which is a better armed verson of the D7 Battlecruiser that included better crew facilities. They have slightly more power available to them as well. now I know SFB is not consider a good source but it was the only reference I could find to the ship

No, it's shields were indeed down and yes, it is a testament to its builders.

For the time. In TOS, hull strength was large enough to take direct hits from most weapons without blowing to pieces. Then, ST:TMP came along and all of a sudden if shields went down you were screwed. Then TNG came up with the ridiculous idea that even if the shields were up, your warp core should still destablilize. It took a lot of DS9 and Voy to fix that, and finally Nemisis came along, where the first salvo from the Scimitar knocked out both the shields and the warp core, yet the E-E didn't explode from being looked at sideways.

Wtf? The first volley was against an unshielded E-E and took out the warp drive and de-actived the core. The sheilds still went up. This also shows that the impulse engines can still power just about everything on the ship except the warp drive.

From Graham Kennedy's website . . .

A K'T'inga from TMP

Kronos One (notice the different, slightly lighter hull colour)

They made small cosmetic modifcations to Kronos One, such as different warp nacelles, but I couldn't find decent screencaps from TUC.

Ober, are you sure the colour is not just an effect of the lighting?

Actually . . . no, I'm not. :)

AFAIK, the Enterprise did indeed look slightly more darker when it was close to (or inside) the V'Ger cloud in TMP like that K'T'inga in the screencap.
