Berman may very well get the boot

Post by JME2 »

From http://www.trektoday.com/news/290104_04.shtml:

A rumour has surfaced that Paramount may plan far more sweeping changes than the time slot for Star Trek: Enterprise.

An anonymous source has told Cinescape that Garry Hart, president of Paramount Television, may be considering replacing the Enterprise production staff, possibly including longtime Star Trek executive producer Rick Berman.

"It would seem the lackluster support of Enterprise by [UPN executives] Les Moonves and Dawn Ostroff at this weekend's UPN press junket has gotten the attention of Garry Hart," wrote Cinescape's Patrick Sauriol. "From an insider...at Paramount Television's Marketing and Media Relations Department, a memo has been spotted suggesting Hart may be waiting until after Enterprise's February sweeps performance to announce the possible replacement of some of the show's production staff."

The same anonymous source, notes Cinescape, correctly leaked information about the show's planned change in time slot. However, stated Sauriol, "these are rumors right now and not known facts, and until our scooper chooses to show us hard proof of their claims or we discover another means to confirm what they are telling us, an open mind should be kept."

All I can say is that I hope this is indeed the case.

Actually that's pretty screwy given it's Braga who's the lesser of the two.

Braga might be included, as it did mention "production staff".

I'd rather see Braga go. I'm pretty sure he "won" our poll on the subject as well. But Berman will have to do, I suppose.

Clearly Braga is the one who must go. During the latter seasons of TNG, it was Berman and Michael Piller, they did some great stuff together. Berman just needs someone to keep an eye on him.

Who knows who might replace him?

This means nothing if Braga ends up running the show.

Frankly I think Braga is a lot worse.

They both ought to go. At best Berman has shown an inclination to simply not care. But far more likely is the fact that he was really a hack that skated along on the basis of other more talented people.

Interesting that they're moving Enterprise to 9pm. To avoid its pummeling by "Smallville" at 8pm, no doubt.

Lets hope that new people who will replace B & B will be able to restore Star Trek to its former glory.

They're FINALLY seeing that something's wrong with the show, now? I guess that's good, in a way, but I also think that the damage may have already been done.

As long as they replace Berman, and not fire him- because that would leave Braga in uncontested control.

Let's not get too excited. The article basically says that some unidentified person claimed to see a memo saying someone might get fired. If anyone is actually fired, it will probably be some low-level production person. It's very unlikely B+B, who created the show, will get fired.

I think Roddenberry's (Hail Roddenberry!) son should replace Berman, while Stravo replaces Bragga. ;)

The Former: Yes. It's not Trek without a Roddenberry on board (DS9 being the exception).

The Latter: YES. Stravo is the master storyteller. If there's anyone who could turn ENT around it's him.

I think the last poll we ran here indicated that the show we really needs to tale a 5-10 year break in order to shed all the craptastic baggage it has accumulated. The franchise has been horribly mangled and really needs time to lie fallow and start fresh sometime in the future. I don't think the answer is a new show.
