So I'm watching the first part of "The Best of Both Worlds" episode, and I realize that Riker is a complete pussy. I mean, he lets Shelby walk all over him.

So I'm curious. Would Spock have acted differently if Shelby came on board and tried to walk all over him?

EDIT: And please don't say that Shelby wouldn't be able to try to screw Spock over because Kirk would have done her first. We all know Kirk was a pimp.

I bet if Kirk was assimilated into the Borg collective, they'd immediately abandon their mission to assimilate biological and technological distinctiveness, and start a mission to fly around tapping green asses. The Borg Cube would become the Borg Phallus. Resistance is future, you will be ass-laminated by the Borg.

You gotta figure, if Boobyprise and Archer dealt with them, Kirk, Spock, and the original Big-E and crew would kick their ass so hard they'd land in the Gamma Quadrant....

Spock wouldn't have had his feelings hurt if Shelby proposed a solution that was different from his. He wouldn't have ranted at Shelby for going over his head by talking to Picard. In short, he wouldn't have reacted as emotionally as Riker did.

Instead, he would have calmly evaluated her proposal and his own, and then made some kind of appropriate recommendation to Kirk. And Kirk himself probably would have said something to Shelby about going through appropriate channels.

Out of curiosity, what would happen aboard the Enterprise-D if Kirk were to be given command of her? What changes would he have made to the operation of the ship?

The ship would never have gone into battle with that saucer section (full of women and children!) attached, for one thing.

What about the culture of the Federation? What effect would that have on Kirk's upbringing? This is assuming Kirk (and Spock) would have been born in the TNG era rather than TOS era, unless we're to assume some freaky time-travel thing (in which case the culture still affects Kirk and Spock, but in a different way).

Chances are Kirk would have been a good starship commander. Picard, if he's still around, could have been the beaurocratic diplomat that continuously locks horns with Kirk on thorny matters. Spock and Data have already met, so we know how they would act around each other. Crusher would have been put in her place on numerous occassions ("We can't use this weapon against the Borg! It would be wrong." Kirk: "Watch me."), as would LaForge ("Captain, we can increase the warpcore efficiency by a significant margin! We just have to do *technobabble*" Kirk: "What about the safeties? Where are the redundant systems?" LaForge: "Uhh..." Kirk: "You're fired.").

Kirk, at least pre-David, wasn't prejudicial against the Klingons; so he probably wouldn't have a problem with Worf. If anything, Worf would be good in a fight, which would be enough for Kirk to like him. Kirk/Troi counselling sessions... ... well, use your imagination.

I actually was thinking about a freaky time-travel manner, because I wanted him to approach the Ent-D from the perspective of his years in the 23rd century.

he'd probably be wondering what hapened to all the miniskirts the female crew wore.

This is TNG, where the Enterprise-D is the most powerful starship in the Federation Fleet. There won't be any "real warships" built until the Defiant comes along in the DS9 era. Besides, it completely misses the point of my question; I want to know how Kirk would deal with the different culture and attitudes of the 24th century Starfleet (and of the Galaxy-class Enterprise, referred to as a "luxury liner" by Captain DeSoto of the Hood), coming from the perspective of his years in the 23rd century.

I think he'd be appalled, or at least disturbed, by the Federation of TNG's era. I hate to say it, but it's probable that the bureaucracy would defeat him - I mean, men like Maxwell and Admiral Leyton were stopped and considered the "bad guys," and they were independent and ready to take matters into their own hands (like Kirk, though I doubt Kirk is as extreme as either one).

Heh, he could always fly away and join the Maquis! If he was in command of the Enterprise, then those goosestepping Cardies will get a kick in the teeth!

Or, he would probably sign up for some real long-range exploring.

And then he'll see the male crewmembers' dress uniforms and his questions will be answered.

If they assimilated Kirk, the new Borg "greeting" might go like this...

"We are...the BORG! Resistance...is......futile. We will addyourbiological and...technologicaldistictiveness to our own. Resistance...isfutile."

The drones would act even more stiff and pause alot more often.
