As we all know, Pardek is a respected member of the Romulan Senate who met Spock at the Khitomer Accords and who used him over 70 years later as part of the 'reunification' plot.

However, the cogs in my brain have been turning for some time. I'd have to go check the DVD carefully (even though he's probably not there), but...

Does anyone think Pardek was a casualty of Shinzon's coup at the start of 'Nemesis'?

I always thought that Sela and Pardek were both executed at the end of "Unification" - Sela for being an incompetent security/intelligence commander, and Pardek for being involved in the first place. The entire fiasco cost Romulas a couple of regiments, 2 high-profile Federation prisoners, and a Vulcan who's determined to re-unite both peoples. Not only that but the incident undermined the Romulan planetary security - someone must have wondered how Picard and Data were able to infiltrate Romulas in the first place.

Someone has to take a fall, and seeings it was Sela's op and Pardek was involved in some fashion (I can't remember the episode clearly, but he's the one who betrays Spock to his government) it seems likely they were the ones who got the blame (Pardek might not have been executed, but he probably was retired). I think it's important to remember that we never see either one again, which kinda makes this hard to speculate on their fate.

Romulan senator helped spock on hos quest for unification of the romulan and vulcan species. Betrayed spock to Commander(or was it adrimal?) Sela operation. All this happen in the TNG episodes "unification parts 1&2" mid-way through season 5.

Maybe in the wake of the death of the entire Romulan Senate he'll return to power and declare war on Vulcan and the Federation.

Oh shit I think I just gave an avenue for the development of the next ST movie.

I was asking because I'm working on having Pardek used as one of the major Romulans for my story 'The Best of Both Worlds'.

And on the subject of which, not to spoil things, but I can garuntee the following Romulans will either appear or have major roles in upcoming chapters of my story: Koval, Tomalak, maybe even...

...

But that would be telling.

Diane Duane's Romulon alter-ego from the books. Basicaly Romulon Pirate Qieen former nemisis of Kirk's, Saavik's aunt, and very good villianess.

Pick up "My Enemy, My Ally" or the hardcover with all the stories involving her. Needless to say she's a damn sight better romulon then anyting that's shown up on TNG.

If I can locate a copy, then I might. I'm not against using characters shown in the books (as Elias Vaughn shows; in fact, I had thoughts about using the U.S.S. Excalibur from the 'New Frontier' novels for the second chapter. In the end, since I wasn't really familiar with 'NF', I chose to create the U.S.S. Gormenghast).

actually one of Daune's novels is one of the two books that is actually considered canon by Roddenberry and PAramount, and she did write a number of TNG episodes, with help from her friend's George R.R, Martian and MEllissa "TNG Script supervisor seasons 1 & 2" Snodgrass.

the book that was accepted by paramount as being part of the startrek universe in question was "spock's world" which also introduced the Diane Daune creation of the half romulon foster daughter character Saavik....

Who knows; perhaps I will try to bring in elements from this story...

In any event, even if I don't, there are going to be plenty of familiar Trek faces (and Wars, but since this IS a Trek board, we'll ignore that for a moment) popping up in the upcoming chapters from Lorgh to Garak, and hell even the First Federation from TOS' 'The Corbomite Maneuver'!

Where did you hear it was considered canon?

I believe basic canon listings on ASVS/SB com.

of course the fact that Spocks world came out before TWOK and featured Saavik kinda add's creadence to it....
