Generations

I admit that I like this movie. True, it's not as great as TWOK and TUC, but it's better than INSUR and NEM. The beginning of it's pretty good and I love the last scene with the E-B where they show just how badly damaged the deflector was. Also the whole Worf getting promoted thing was pretty cool.

"Computer, remove the plank."
"Number One, that's retract the plank, not remove the plank."

But you know, somehow those old naval uniforms seemed to fit in with Trek. Would be interesting to see a modified version of them.

I thought Kirk's ending in Generations was abominable. He dies falling of a bridge?! I've always had a major problem with that.

I did like it though when Data says "oh, shit." :)

Would you prefer the orginal version? Kirk gets shot in the back??

Honestly i found Generations quite entertaining. It really would have been better as a two-part episode or something as it doesn't have the feel of a proper big screen movie.

That sounds awful too. I thought it would have been better if Kirk ironically got sucked back into the nexus.

Perhaps due to stock footage ;)

What was with those stations on the left side of the bridge?

Rikers command skills in a battle are sorely lacking. :x

The holodeck bit with Worf falling looked good but really confused me. How can worf fall off the boat when its deck is the actually floor???

I hated Generations almost as much as the Final Frontier. It was dull unimaginative and on the whole really annoyed me. Starships with sensors that can detect a whale farting from 3 secors away can't detect unauthorised transmissions? Kirk dying like a fool. Personaly i'd have prefered to see Kirk get shot in the back. Imagine it. Picard has the controls all sorted but is shot at so he runs away. Kirk knocks Sorren down and makes a break for the controls. As he's about to hit the execute key Sorren shoots him, he's fataly wounded but he gains enough of a second wind to lurch for the control board and locks the clamps at the last possible second.

Did the Enterprise-D have to be irreperably destroyed, and if so, couldn't it have gone down to something more impressive than a Bird of Prey? Seriously, after all those years and all she survived, she deserved a better end than gettig shot up by a Bird of Prey and face-planting on some planet. Maybe they were trying to repeat what happened in ST3, but they did a bad job.

That would have been my other big change to Generations. Give the Duras sisters a couple of Vortcha(sp) cruisers.

or at the very least a K'Vort cruiser (the most recent BoP design, and a OOM or so larger than the original BoP designs).

I believe when Aleyska did a rewrite of it (a rather good one), they had 2 Vorcha's and 2 BOP's.

That or maybe have Riker fire back more than one fucking time. What a waste.

Supposedly, according to Ron Moore:
  1. The lethargic battle in Generations was a result of the budget.
  2. Rick Berman handed from on high a list of things that needed to be done, and it was absurdly long. It included, but was not limited to:
  • Enterprise is to be destroyed.
  • The original crew are to appear, but only in the first part of the movie. Kirk may come up later.
  • Kirk dies.
  • The Klingons are involved somehow.
  • Data gets emotions.
I think there were more, but I can't remember them.

There are three things IMO that killed Generations:
  1. The producers tried to do too much in two hours; we don't always need two things going on at once.
  2. The Nexus premise is flawed in that it creates a massive loophole (why didn't Kirk and Picard come in earlier to stop Soran?)
  3. The deaths of both Kirk and Enterprise are horrible. Kirk's death (which was IIRC redone after an overwhelming negative reaction by advance screeners) was still very lacking given his previous acts of heroism, and the Enterprise was done in by the "we're fucking shitty writers so we'll break the ship and disallow core ejection" device.

Generations was good but some scenes could have been seriously better. And why is it that when Riker ordered a spread of torpedoes, only one came out? And why is it that the Federation flagship could get its butt whooped by a 20 year old BoP, eveb if the shields are down you would think it could do some damage to the little BoP. And it bothered me that they used the same BoP explosion in Generations and the Undiscovered Country. But the film was lacking a good plot, it felt like there was a void where something needed to be there but just was not there.

Generations was self-indulgent tripe. There was no reason Kirk had to be in the film at all, except because Rick Berman thought it would increase the box-office. Picard could have easily gone into the Nexus, fought with his own desire to stay there, won, and then popped out at an opportune time and place to fuck up Soren's plans.

I was disgusted by Picard's lack of HTH skills. The guy got knocked off the damn bridge both times!

And then in First Contact he becomes Rambo. It doesn't make much sense, does it? Especially since we've seen him kick arse in episodes of the fucking TV show! Christ, even the Enterprise should've been taking names!

About the only part I liked was where the old crew was on board the Ent. B. Well up until Kirk got blown out.

Didn't care for it mostly because

1. Why was Kirk in it? We understand TNG in the Next Gen Trek, don't need to have Kirk personally hand the baton.

2. Piss poor battle.

3. Stupid villain...honestly why didn't he hurl himself in a shuttle and into the ribbon again. And the G'rowl sisters just lacked everything for a mediocre villain.

4. Poor usage of Data getting emotional. Suddenly he becomes completely inept?!

Urgh....just a poor movie.

You have to admit though, Data's life form song was funny. :D

Geneation was a good movie, better than both Insurrection and Nemesis. First Contact is the best TNG movie however.

Kirk died saving the Enterprise-B. The whole bit with Soran was just Picard's delusion.
