I am watching the first episode of 'Voyager' and Janeway told Ensign Kim that "despite Starfleet protocall, I don't like being called 'sir.'"

There you have it!

*the scene is Janeway's ready room. She's sipping coffee and drinking coffee. How lame. A chime*

JANEWAY: Enter.

*the Balrog smashes his way into the room*

BALROG: What the hell kind of ship are you running lady?

JANEWAY: Wha?

BALROG: Shut up and listen to me! You're not gonna get four parsecs with a crew like this! Just look around! Nobody's got any respect for anyone around here! You're gotta show them who the boss is!

JANEWAY: But-

BALROG: No buts! Show some steel in the spine! Are you some gut-wrenching slime maggot that just crawled out of a tree trunk or are you a Star-motherfucking-fleet Captain? Are you gonna get some milage out of those phaser banks or just let them go to waste?

JANEWAY: I prefer-

BALROG: And I prefer elves for a midafternoon snack, but we can't all get what we want, can we? Now, instead of whining about it, stand up and KICK SOME ASS!

JANEWAY: You're...absolutely right.

BALROG: Now, repeat after me! I'm a pretty hate machine!

JANEWAY: I'm...a...pretty...hate...machine...

BALROG: Louder!

JANEWAY: I'm a pretty hate machine!

BALROG: LOUDER!

JANEWAY: I'M A PRETTY HATE MACHINE!

BALROG: NOW GO SHOW THEM WHO'S BOSS!

*Janeway charges out the door and prceeds to conquer the Delta Quadrant...and the Gamma Quadrant while she's at it*

Kuja, you forgot the part about how she suddenly reverts to her "kindly mother" persona when she gets out of her ready room, so a 16 ton weight falls on her.

I think she disliked it because she was called "sir" so often when she was growing up.

So much for Pathos... even Darth Wong cannot resist the Monty Python jokes, my faith in the universe is restored...

I don't think Janeway wanted to be called "sir" because it reminded her of the fact that she used to be a man.

Somewhat on topic: Saavik in WoK was called "Mr. Saavik" despite being a woman.

That's because that line was never rewritten when the Saavik part was re-cast as a woman (in several early drafts Saavik had been written as a man).
