Starfleet Policies (Married Captains)

Post by Kitsune »

I am curious what people think that Starfleet will do,
They have two captains who are married and one of them is killed in combat. Will the Federation relieve the other captain from command or is it more likely that they will forget about the potential problem? What kind of aproach would they do, would it be friendly or would it be very rough and demanding?
"He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself."
Thomas Paine

"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten."

Considering how they once placed civilian families and children onboard a starship that ventured into combat situations, I don't see any genuine concern for an officer's well being. If the spouse was another starfleet officer at least there'd be some reassurances about how the husband/wife fulfilled their duty. That still does not comfort the other very much, and the surviving captain would be spending a lot of time with the ship's counsilor.

I'm not sure whether or not they'll relieve the other captian. On a semi-related note, they've taken Picard out of action in ST:FC because they felt he wouldn't be mentally able to perform in face of the Borg (despite the fact he's faced the Borg since then). It says a lot about Starfleet, I don't recall them doing that much to help Picard face the trama of being assimulated or comes to terms with anything. Rather they seemed to ignore the well being of their captain, and did nothing but isolate him at the worst possible time.

Actually every Starship has a counselor there to help with trauma. It was Picards decision not to talk to Troi about his experiences, though in Nemesis he does alude to actually confiding in her quite a bit.

More than likely ignore the problem until the Captain became a ticking time bomb like Maxwell.
