Data's death

Post by Shrykull »

I wonder how the news of this got out. I heard that he was going to in Insurrection before it came out, wonder what Brent thought of it.

And would there ever be a way for him to achieve being human. He refused to let Riker made him it in Hide and Q but later in Deja Q when Q becomes a human he says "You have achieved in disgrace what I have always aspired to be." Frankly, I really can't see any of way for him to become human other than what Riker offered him, I thought of making a clone that looks just like him then transferring his consciousness into it, if it still remains his consciousness, or removing the human brain and replacing it with his positronic brain why didn't he accept it? His explanation was "it would be so to you, but never so to me, why???"

Brent wanted Data to be killed off, because he (rightfully so) thought that he was getting too old to play an android who shouldn't be showing human signs of aging.

I have not seen Nemesis but based on what I have read, it sounded like they wanted to end the TNG driven series anyway.

Yes, Nemesis was intended to be the end of TNG series of films.

They planed on the possibility of doing Enterprise films next, IIRC.

Data was technically a living person, save for skin, eyes and the circuits. I mean, he breathed, had a heartbeat and pulse. Hell, even his hair grew. He could also get a double chin and a gut. :P

With the current ratings? Any movie would be anal raped at the Box Office.

Given Paramounts tendencies to release so much crap, perhaps they've come to enjoy such....actions.... :P

No, with the ratings from a year ago. I think they quietly retired the idea once Nemesis tanked.

So, what is next for Star Trek, or have B&B actually killed the series?

The franchise is dead, the only question is whether Paramount will allow B&B to completely destroy it for all time. Paramount will do anything they can to keep some form of Star Trek active, but in the end money is what counts, and the franchise is becoming a liability rather than an asset. The only problem is that by the time it is finally laid to rest, Paramount's necrophilia may have so spoiled the corpse that there will be nothing left to resurrect later.

I believe I read somewhere that Paramount has decided not to do any more Trek movies in the foreseeable future.

Thank the gods for that. Anything that would come out on the big screen in the near future would suck donkey nuts just like their small screen atrocities are doing, and wouldn't justify the expenditure unless they use TOS style FX and production quality.
