Torpedo and Shield question

Post by Crazedwraith »

Do a starships shields have to be lowered so they can fire torps?
I read something to that effect in a book but can't remember if the canon confirms or denies this?

Incorrect. Ships may fire torpedoes while shields are up.

there's been several examples of this in the television series. in deep space 9, for example, the entire station was covered in shields while firing multiple torpedoes. so there's at least one canon example.

BOBW clearly shows that shields are up while torpedos are being fired.

The explanation i'd heard was that a small part of the shield was lowered, thr part govering the torpedo launcher, for a split second while the torpedo is fored. However that explanation was in a TNG novel i think, and so might not count.
