Good Price on ST:DS9 DVDs

It looks like Best Buy is going to have a good deal on DS9 DVDs next week. Buy 2 sets, get $40 off. Buy 3, get $60 off. Buy 4, get $100 off. The total price for all 7 seasons is about $740, if I'm reading it right and you get $160 off, that's pretty good. After tax, that comes to just $88 a set. Anyone know of a better price?

To the mods: I hope this is allowed. I appologise if it's not or I posted in the wrong forum.

EDIT: There's also a $20 mail in rebate from Paramount when you buy seasons 6 & 7.

I only need/want episodes that have Borg tactical information. That would include at least the pilot episode anyhow. :)

BTW, my assumption was accurate. You get the $ off the listed price, which is already discounted off of their normal price. However, the discount might not be in the system yet (the manager manually took the $100 off my purchase).

I'd rather get ahold of someone in Toronto from whom I can borrow the movies to take screenshots. It's not as if I would ever actually watch the entire DS9 series run.

Sorta parallels the whole music industry thing! There are a select few DS9 episodes I'd love to have on DVD, but I certainly don't want to buy a whole season to get them.

I will never buy any Trek DVD series except the original- they are so overpriced it's a crime.

Which DS9 episodes would you select, just out of curiosity? For me, most of the show was utter crap, but there were a few gems in it - "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" was probably the only good season 7 episode, most of the rest were mediocre. I sure as hell wouldn't pay good money to buy a season set, not when I can spend that money and buy FarScape, Stargate, or Babylon 5.

Same with me and TNG... the only full season I would consider buying would be Season 3... maybe Season 4. But there are a few episodes in other seasons I'd love to have, like Gambit. (probably the only Season 7 episode I really like).

Why do you think they're selling them this way? It's pretty obvious that they know there's only a handful of episodes people would actually buy. It's not like TOS.

I agree that DS9 is pretty bad compared to TOS, Babylon 5, Stargate, and TNG. However, there are enough good episodes to just barely justify the price that BB has right now. I'm still trying to justify it to myself, and might end up returning them.

However, I do like the fact that they're sold as seasons. If they were sold as doubles, like TOS is, you would be looking at nearly $10 an episode, plus about 50% of your episodes would be crap anyway. At the BB price, the per episode cost is about $3.50.

The ideal way to handle it would probably be to sell the box set, and then sell a 10 episode "best of DS9" set. Which, of course, Paramount would never do.

My greatest fear is that in 2 or 3 years Paramount will turn around and sell a new set with real extras. I -hope- they dont, or at the very least they give us original customers a deep discount.

And of course, the TOS box sets are supposedly coming out around late 2004/early 2005, because Paramount wants to release Voyager first. Bastards.

It will be very interesting to see the sales of TOS boxed set compared to the other series especially with Voyager being sold simultaneoulsy as boxed sets. I'm willing to bet that TOS sales will be higher than TNG DS9 and especially Voyager.

For completists, most likely.

Anyone see how the box art for the Voyager sets are going to look? Talk about gaudy...

I hope that we aren't seeing a trend where the box art gets progressively worse, but so far, it seems so.

Man, the Trek sets will really set you back, won't they? Babylon 5 seasons are "only" about $70 (listed higher, but there's TONS of deals on them and it's easy to get them for less), and I think THOSE are expensive. I only bought two seasons of TNG, but I'm not sure I'm going to get ANY DS9 sets. It'd get too expensive to collect the good episodes, since they tended to be more consistent about having a few really good episodes a season, mixed in with some good ones and a couple of duds.

I thought I would write some random thoughts about it... just because I'm bored.

I had a hard time deciding to open the season 1 box. After all, I could still return it. Then, I remembered that the final after tax price was $80, I thought about all of the crap video games I've spent that much on over the years, and I -know- I'm going to at least watch this, hence, relative to my worst purchases, this is a good deal. (Yeah, yeah, I'm rationalizing my stupidity.)

The box is surprisingly shiny and bold, something that I wasn't expecting based on how it looked while in the shrink wrap. The packaging is very unique. However, I wouldn't want to use it too much because I suspect that it will rip.

Da fawk is up with the weird episode numbers: 721, 404, 403

Nice menus. Great sound. Even with my laptop headphones, I could hear the directionality of ships firing and moving. The video is a bit washed and grainy, just like TNG.

Interesting, a Borg ship can blow away half the saucer of a Fed ship in about three seconds. 'dems good shields.

Start of Hit
Almost destroyed
Gone

Anyway, I gotta run.

EDIT: BTW, let me know if any of you need any screenshots. I dislike taking them, but will do it if you need them.

My player, WinDVD 5, has a button that you press to take a screenshot. Your player may have something similar.
