Put Words To The Federation Anthem!

Post by Bob McDob »

I understand that the Federation anthem has no words. Why not hold a little contest to see who can write the best lyrics?
That's the wrong way to tickle Mary, that's the wrong way to kiss!
Don't you know that, over here lad, they like it best like this!
Hooray, pour les français! Farewell, Angleterre!
We didn't know how to tickle Mary, but we learnt how, over there!

They played it during that episode where the DS9 crew lost pitifully to the Vulcans at baseball.

There were so many other episodes where hearing the anthem would not only have been more appropriate, but also more moving. Instead, we hear it through a baseball episode.

Something they blamed on Vulcan physiology. Maybe the DS9 team just sucks at baseball, hmm? After all, if you watch "Amok Time", Kirk was operating in a thin atmosphere and was still able to fight Spock to a standstill until McCoy's knockout drugs kicked in.

You obviously know nothing about Star Trek. Kirk's shirt was probably ripped. That makes him stronger than any other character. Especially in a fistfight.

But seriously - I would assume, given the other examples we've seen of Vulcans (including Spock) mopping the floor with humans (including Kirk), that the drugs were already having some effect but needed time to knock Spock out completely.

Erm, the knock-out drugs were given to Kirk. He was the one who "died" by Spock's hands.

Jesus Christ - that is weird (read: inconsistent). This was the pohn farr episode, right? Maybe pohn farr weakens Vulcans?

Pon Farr makes Vulcans more aggressive, which probably translates into "more dangerous in a fight."

However, Spock wasn't benefiting from his logical precision, so he may not have been fighting intelligently. He was also established through the series as being a pacifist (he has an aversion to killing, but is willing to do it if ordered to and/or if it is necessary).

Kirk was given the knock out drugs because he didn't want to hurt Spock. Given that Kirk has martial training and Spock doesn't, I fully agree with this sentament. Spock, for all his strenght, probably cannot counter effective tactics and fighting which Kirk has demonstrated.

Besides, the fight was to the death. By using the knock out drug, Kirk would "appear" dead, and the fight will be won in Spock's name; honour kept and all that. (something just occurred to me, Kirk may not have been aware of the drug - McCoy might've given him the drug without exactly telling him what it was supposed to be.)

Unbreakable Union of federated Planets,
Great Earth has welded forever to stand.
Created in struggle by will of the people,
United and mighty, our Federated land!

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Federation Council, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us,
Along the new path where great Cochrane did lead.
To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples,
Inspired them to labor and valorous deed.

Sing to the Federation, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Federation Council, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

In the vict'ry of Communism's deathless ideal,
We see the future of our dear land.
And to her fluttering blue banner,
Selflessly true we always shall stand!

Feh, I could have done that :p Thanks for being on-topic, though :)

Seriously, does anyone have a MP3 or MIDI of that tune? Or willing to extract it for people to hear? (The Fed anthem, not the USSR :D)

I think the Feds should just change their anthem to the 80s classic "We Built This City" by Starship.
"If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little."
-George Carlin (1937-2008)

-Dr Roberts, with quite possibly the dumbest thing ever said in 10 years of SDNet.

I thought the Federation anthem was "Star Trekking" by The Firm.

That's what I don't get. They were on a bloody holodeck and didn't create holograms of Babe Ruth, Ty Cob and others and just claim they were crewmen on the stations.

I figured their anthem would be similar to the Soviets. :P

Maybe having words to the Federation Anthem would seem to militristic to the pacifists in SF command...

I would need that to attempt to come up with words for it.

Well you would need to have heard the tune to come up with words for it...
