Starfleet Cadet uniforms

I was watching the TNG episode "The First Duty" where the Enterprise goes to Earth to attend the Nova Squadron inquiry which Wesley is involved in. I was noticing the cadet uniforms have cargo pockets on the pants and even though it is a minor detail it goes a long way to making the uniform look more military and better than the standard uniform. Opinions?

Yeah, those uniforms and rank bars looked spiffy. You know, it would've been cool so see a squadron of peregrines do the starburst in a battle during DS9, since that series used alot of fighters.

Cool?yes. Useful? No. Fighter pilots don't usally pull crowd pleasing stunts in combat.

They could do it for the WTF factor. Any Cardies or Jemmies who see them do that would be too busy going "what the fuck?" to fight for a few moments.

Oh yeah, I can see that. "What the fuck are they doing?" "I don't know. We'd better shoot them first just in case."

Aerial-acrobatics have no place in a battle.

Meh, would've been hilarious to see the Peregrines and Jemmy attack ships break into a fancy manuever contest.

I dont remember the uniforms from that episode, but I thought it was interesting to notice they doors to the cadet rooms had regular door handles. No "whooosh" opening doors. And someone even knocked on the door.

The tops were red on black, the opposite of what the TNG uniforms were at the time. The pants were normal, save for two big pockets on the sides.

On the contrary, they have ever place in combat as most airshow manuvers came about from dog fighting manuevers.

Restate:
Purely airshow acrobatics have no place in combat.

Well sure, maybe in real life... but the CGI battles are already lame, if we can't get substance we might as well get style.

Hell, spaceborne fighters couldn't use my favorite move too often -- low and fast, Mud Hen style!

Still i dont think igniting ur plasma exhust would do you much good in combat.
