Trill compatability

For a future storyline, can anyone tell me if there has been an instance where a trill symbiote due to emergency had to be implanted into someone not a Trill and survived or could have survived through the intervention of author special circumstances or is it just simply impossible?

Survived permanently? Not as far as I know.

One was implanted in (as I recall) Commander Riker, but only briefly, and suffered ill effects for the duration.

Basicly Rikers imune system kept trying to kill it. Of course this trill was either injured or otherwise had major problems with it. As using a transporter could kill it.

Crusher was able to keep them both alive by brutaly supressing Rikers imune system, that however led him to becoming ill for other reasons.

However it appears that only Trills are biologicaly suited to carrying a symboyte and other races simply can't take them.

That, and they're the only ones who want a bigass slug in their bodies.

So a solution perhaps could be some drug that suppresses the immune system's acting to kill it, while not suppressing the whole immune system.

Perhaps something to trick the IS into thinking the slug is part of the host body.

I wouldn't mind one.

There is a statement to Sisko by the Head of the Trill Symbiont Initiate whatever thingy where fully half of all Trill are physiologically capable of carrying a symbiont...and if THAT information got out, then symbyonts would suddenly become an item of trade or a prize, instead of a responsibility accepted by the intelectual elite.
