Spider-Man vs. Neo

Post by Demiurge »

This is the comic book version of Spidey. He is in the Matrix, but cannot enhance his normal abilities in any way. He fights Neo as of Reloaded, who is armed with a pair of stylish sunglasses. The fight takes place where Neo fought the Smith clones in Reloaded.

I suppose the question comes down to whether or not Neo has faster reflexes than Spidey.

Spidey's precog and reflexs beat Neo. Spidey's stronger, faster and has webbing.

Yes, his "Spidey-sense" warns him of danger before it happens. For most immediate threats, it tells him what's going to happen within a second, sometimes less. But he gets a more general warning about some dangers on the order of 5-10 minutes.
The more immediate the danger, the more intense the sense, and when it becomes strong enough, he can even discern what precisely the danger is...for example, if there're some guys casing a bank for a robbery across the street, he'll get a general warning for a few minutes until he figures out what's going on. If someone's about to shoot him, he receives a specific warning, but only about a half-second of time to react, just enough for his super reflexes to handle.
So, he has precog, but not Jedi-level precog.

I'd say Spidey could at least fight on par with Neo, but Neo could easily escape at any time, by doing his Superman trick.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Hmm, I always thought that his Spider Sense was just hightened sensitivity and awareness of his surroundings. But I never really was much of a SM reader. ;)

I agree that Spidey would probably win. Neo hasn't really shown any feats of strength that can match up to those of the web-slinger.

Neo vs. Punisher would be a good match, for obvious reasons.

Couldn't Spidey just shoot a web at Neo as Neo's trying to fly away?

The acceleration would probably just whip Spidey off his feet, and he'd have to let go. :P

Neo can run away faster, yep. But running away is generally seen as a concession.

I don't think you people have watching Matrix Reloaded, have you?

Strength? Neo used a steel bar to hit several Smiths like a baseball. One for instance ended up flying through a second story window about 25-30 feet away. Smith is probably about 220 pounds. Neo also threw off twenty Smiths that piled on, launching many of them into the air a few dozen feet. Neo held Morpheus and the Keymaker each one handed and flew with them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all of that requires a shitload of strength.

Reflexes? Neo regularly dodges bullets fired at him from point blank, nuff said.

What about other special powers? He's got stupid amounts of telekinesis, allowing him to fly like superman and stop hundreds of bullets cold a few feet after they left the barrels of the guns that fired them. He can see through walls and instantly read the code of anything around him in the Matrix, which canonically allowed him to tell that the Merovingians building was wired with explosives, but also allowed him locate Morpheus and the Keymaker, not to mention Trinty, from miles away, and also allowed him locate and remove the bullet inside Trinity.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how Spiderman, as cool and tough as he is, can match Neo within the Matrix.

Actually, agents are almost certainly a lot heavier than 200 pounds, remember the impact caused by an Agent jumping onto a car in the freeway scene.

I just guessed about 200 pounds, since that is what I guessed that a man Smith's height and build to weigh. I think what happened there was just the force of Johnson's springboarding off of it crushed the front end. Notice that he only dented the front end of the car that Morpheus and gang were in when he landed on it, rather than caving in the whole front end or that he didn't go through the cargo compartment of that 18 wheeler when he landed on it. Still, 200 - 230 pounds is alot of weight to be smacking around like a softball. Neo's got to have mad strength when he's in the Matrix.
