Trailer for Dawn of the Dead remake
Well, the teaser for the remake to Dawn of the Dead has arrived. Theres no stopping it now...a new version of Dawn of the Dead will be shown by in March whether you like it or not.
Download it here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/dawnofthedead/
While the trailer is rather brief it at least gives some direction of the film. I thought the opening shots of the gang living in the mall worked very well, it seemed to recapture that sense of surreal fun from the first film. The city shots looked very cool as well, seeing as this film had a considerable budget (when compared to the original, which was made for about 3 million dollars or so).
The shots of the zombies did not impress me though. I dont like the whole teenager angle that the film seemed to be pushing and the scenes with zombies were very poorly portrayed, though to be fair it was just a few brief glimpses and not much to go on.
Its hard to really fairly assess the film just based on this though. I'll be waiting for something more substantive before i condemn the movie itself. The thought of remaking DOTD completely appalls and sickens me but its not fair to really write off the film itself just based on that. As i sat there waiting for the download to load i just wanted to strangle the makers for doing it, and while the trailer doesnt make the film look absolutly god-aweful, it didnt exactly put me at ease. I just hope that im wrong come March.

I didn't know they were making a remake, and BTW WHY did Dawn of the Dead need a remake? Same for Texas Chainsaw, what was the pressing need for a remake? I laugh heartily that Texas is getting AWFUL AWFUL reviews. Maybe the remake mill will stop for awhile.

It's remake-o-rama! Let's see who will roll first: the dead creators in their graves, or the stomachs of the audience
ISARMA: Daikaiju Coordinator: Just Add Radiation
Justice League- Molly Hayes: Respect Hats or Freakin' Else!
Browncoat
Supernatural Taisen - "[This Story] is essentially "Wouldn't it be awesome if this happened?" Followed by explosions."
Reviewing movies is a lot like Paleontology: The Evidence is there...but no one seems to agree upon it.
"God! Are you so bored that you enjoy seeing us humans suffer?! Why can't you let this poor man live happily with his son! What kind of God are you, crushing us like ants?!" - Kyoami, Ran

It's Hollywood looking for the next sure thing. It's the next step after sequel-mania. Why bother with a sequel when you can just rip off, I mean remake, a movie that was a hit way back when. Never mind that they have no idea at all what made the orginal a hit to begin with.Stravo wrote:I didn't know they were making a remake, and BTW WHY did Dawn of the Dead need a remake? Hmmm... the trailer didn't seem that bad actually. The end part with the girl with the shotgun had too many similarities to Resident Evil which sent a cold, unpleasant, oh fuck this is going to be bad, feeling.
Though one thing I have to really complain against is the fast moving jumping zombies we saw! I mean, the whole slow moving zombies were perfect for a movie like Dawn of the Dead. It was the slow movement of inevitablity and also represented that these slow moving dung heaps only reached en masse partly due to social and religious beliefs against desecrating the dead, or the belief that they'll get better. The lack of obedience under Martial Law.. etc etc.
Now, it kind dof just looks like a 28 days wanna be which was a Dawn of the Dead wannabe so you get a 2x dilution rate here.

i know, we have these jumping, kung-fu zombies that look like extras from House of the dead! Thats what i dont like about the film.Trytostaydead wrote: Though one thing I have to really complain against is the fast moving jumping zombies we saw! I saw it last night. I aint terrible but its nothing special. I would give it about a B- or so. Its a completly unnecessary film, and its changed the story so that its now a teen slasher flick. Still cool to see Leatherface hanging people on meathooks thoughsuperman wrote:FYI, the new Texas Chainsaw remake is getting some pretty decent reviews. If you look at yahoo, the only critic to give it an 'F' was Roger Ebert. Some critics gave it a 'B.' The average grade for it is a 'C.'
The fans are giving it an A-.

*Sigh* fast moving undead. When it was 28 Days later that was fresh and original. when it is the franchise that ESTABLISHED the undead as slow mindless creatures it looks like a ripoff.
Also, fast moving kung fu undead means that there is no chance humanity can win. How can you beat them? Your average person would get his ass handed to him by these zombies and aren't the Romero dead moveis about how normal average folks handle the crisis.
That being said I thought that the trailer was actually quite good, and if it was called anything else I would be happier about it.

Yes, but the slow moving zombies added a sense of overwhelming impending, unstoppable doom. Nothing beat the shuffling gait, the slack jaw growl.. the firing of guns until they went dry and then the screams.. the screams.Stravo wrote:

It was a process of inevitability which I absolutely loved.
