How would you deal with "Extinction" problem(spoil

Using the situation from Extinction, what steps would you take to stop or eliminate the problem caused by the virus?
The virus changed people into an extinct alien species. I'm not sure but it seemed that the virus was limited to the extinct species home world.
Assuming it was, I would have had the planet nuked. Turn it into a glowing ball. That would stop the virus for sure.
If the virus wasn't limited to the planet, I would still nuke it. Got have some fun!

Destroying the entire surface of the planet is probably the best way to kill off the virus and prevent its spread. That is what the forehead aliens should have done a long time ago, since they were so worried about the spread of the virus. Now; however, if I were Archer I would find a way to introduce the virus on the Xindi homeworld. Basically, I would turn it into a biological weapon.

Maybe all of that talk about wanting to preserve that species was just a front to his real plan to use it against the Xindi

Barring comeplete destruction of the planet's surface and such, something as cost-effective as a single sensor beacon orbiting the planet screaming out "Hey! Don't Go Down There, Really Nasty Virus Gonna Kill You Suckas!" would have completely sovled the problem.
But then we wouldn't have an ENT episode to make fun of

does the Akiraprise actually have the firepower to do that, though?

I was actually thinking along the lines of the alien race trying to contain the mutating virus.

That'll take a good number of nukes... how about establishing a quarantine and then finding a nice, big asteroid to hit the planet with?

Archer could have placed a subspace telemetry beacon on the surface. Emitting positive tachyon wave variance, and interferring with the phase modulation of the planetary geomagnetic field, making it appear there was a large human settlement on the surface. When the xindi arrive to eliminate the threat, they would be infected, and potentially carry it back to their homeworld. (all nine of them) okay, I just made that shit up. Also, guys the xindi probably have metaposic cell fluctuations, rendering the virus unable to replicate and therefore harmless to them. the bio-weapon idea is not good. (I made that shit up, too.)
(The above post is comic relief.)

What I don't understand is, why incinerate the infected people if they're on the planet?
Just destroy the shuttles and let them live their lives out alone...they're not going anywhere.

I like your post. I bet if you sent it to B&B, they would probably offer you a writing job!

Because there's always the possibility of some fool making planetfall and carrying the virus offworld when he leaves.
