Post by Laird »

Has anyone done any calculations on these Umm "Special olympic" weapons of the akiraprise?

I did a search and only found calcs on the phontonic torpedos.

No.

As I recall, they seemed to have less effect than the phase cannons in "Silent Enemy" (????), for whatever that's worth.

Depending on when you ask Reed , that could be just about anything in the low gigajoule to single-digit terajoule range.

Dizzy Mr. Reed also says that those missiles pose a proximity threat when detonated only a kilometer or so away in "Dead Stop." I seriously doubt that; the resulting explosions from two missiles could barely break off one of the space station's "repair arms."

I suppose someone could derive an upper-limit based on that incident, since assuming any SOM change would be generous to say the least.

Well, they should be less then the photonic torps, and those are about 200 kt.

They were a threat from 1 km away? I guess that depends on the material. Assuming they would melt a square meter to a depth of one cm, and assuming a nondirected explosion, that works out to ~58 KT. Which falls within the above margin and would still be a threat (that could damage the narcells and cause the ship to cork off. And no matter what you are loosing a cm on your hide is no good.
