Romulan War

Does anyone else feel that the tech used on Enterprise is too advanced when compared with Spock's description of the war in TOS?
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

Yeah give Beanie and Buttmunch time to screw-up the Romulan war, using weapons other than nuclear.....worse case scenario they may invent a peaceful solution to this war.seanrobertson wrote:Possibly.Admiral Johnason wrote:Does anyone else feel that the tech used on Enterprise is too advanced when compared with Spock's description of the war in TOS?
In "Minefield," we've already seen Romulan ships with plasma weapons or disruptors. They also had cloaking devices.
Then we've got the NX-01 which uses proto-phasers and now, photon torpedoes.
We've yet to have a real contradiction, though. The NX-01's photorps might not be standard Starfleet issue projectile weapons for some time to come. And we have no idea what sort of range her phase cannons, or the Romulan disruptors, might have, so they might not be used a lot.
Their war could yet be fought largely with nuclear weapons, and we still haven't seen a Romulan, so that part of "BoT" hasn't been thoroughly trashed...yet.
Give it time, I say
But didn't they say that these "photonic torpedoes" have a M/AM warhead?Solauren wrote:Just cause they are calling it a Photon Torp, doesn't mean it's a TNG era Photon torp.
After all, it could refer to the weapons drive system
The only nit-pick I have are the Phase Cannons. Hopefully, other Earth ships will have lasers for some believable reason (i.e to cheap to arm the Starfleet with them, we need to get them more cost effective)
No. They kill you in distinct and discrete phases.Darth Wong wrote:Phase cannon is the dumbest name I've heard for a weapon in a while. They shoot angular offsets at people?
Does anyone else feel that this has been brought up fifty-thousand times already?Admiral Johnason wrote:Does anyone else feel that the tech used on Enterprise is too advanced when compared with Spock's description of the war in TOS?
Oh, oh!! I do, I do!!Embracer Of Darkness wrote:Does anyone else feel that this has been brought up fifty-thousand times already?Admiral Johnason wrote:Does anyone else feel that the tech used on Enterprise is too advanced when compared with Spock's description of the war in TOS?
Wrong,The inept klingon that is chasing enterprise in "expanse" says "What was that?!" "Some kind of antimatter warhead."-Duras and klingon bridge officer.Solauren wrote:Just cause they are calling it a Photon Torp, doesn't mean it's a TNG era Photon torp.

Show where in ST canon that is said.Laird wrote:Wrong,The inept klingon that is chasing enterprise in "expanse" says "What was that?!" Antimatter weapons were not ready till TOS.
And you DO know that Photon Torpedoes were a standard issue weapon on the Klingon Raptor in an earlier Enterprise Episode, right?Laird wrote:Wrong,The inept klingon that is chasing enterprise in "expanse" says "What was that?!" The concept of polarized hull plating isnt an all-bad one. If weapons are charged, then having some charge polarization in the hull would push the incoming beam away, like two like charged pieces of material in a closed container hanging from two pieces of string. The hull could be a giant capacitor, and that would make sense with this polarization thing. But form some funny reason I highly doubt phasers/disruptors/etc are CPBs, especially because CPBs are useless when neutralization is simple enough.neoolong wrote:I think it's "polarize the hull plating" actually.
Your idea about the Romulans having cloaks is false. The Romulans weren't supposed to have cloaks before TOS. In Balance of Terror, the say cloaking tech was still in the experimantal phase and that it had never been "seen" before. Ent. contirdicts that.Trogdor wrote:B&B have just made a number of stupid assumptions about trek: it won't be trek if phasers or something similar aren't used, it won't be trek if photon torps aren't used, the Romulans won't be Romulans if they can't cloak, etc. It's just their idiotic attempt at keeping trek vintage which is horribly backfiring and making Ent something weird, lame, and all around continuity breaching. Let's leave it at that.
You missed the point, dear sir. Trogdor was suggesting that Messrs. Berman and Braga are willing to sacrifice consistency between series in the name of what they think is the "feel" of Star Trek -- i.e., having phasers, photon torpedos, and cloaking devices before they're supposed to exist.Admiral Johnason wrote:Your idea about the Romulans having cloaks is false.
