Destruction of the Odyssey

Post by Uraniun235 »

DS9's "The Jem'Hadar" wasn't clear on whether the captain of the Odyssey took Dax's advice on offloading the nonessential personnel or not. Does anyone have any insight on this?

It sounds like you already checked the transcript, or the episode, but I just poured over it and this is all I could find:

DAX
It'll take at least that long to
offload all the nonessential personnel
from the Odyssey.
(off Keogh's look)

You were planning on doing that,
weren't you?

Keogh looks at Dax long and hard.

KEOGH
Lieutenant, have you ever thought of
serving on a starship?

Keogh was an arrogant asshole, but he wasn't totally brain-dead; Kira was able to convince him that the Runabouts would be an asset if the Odyssey encountered Jem'Hadar ships.

So, I'd guess he unloaded the non-essential personnel. What kind of man w/ any decency wouldn't?

Yes, they shouldnt have taken the Oddyssey. The Runabouts, for some bizarre reason, survived.

Forget the starship, just the Runabouts woulda done fine.

Maybe I should write a fictional history book entitled: First to Die: The Loss of the U.S.S. Odyssey.

Should be noted that the ship took a right beating and not once did anyone say the warp core was becoming unstable. Odyssey would likely have made it were it not for the suicide run.

Thats true.

Ah yes, the warp core. Just as Starfleet works out that higly volatile warp core of the Galaxy Class, then one of them gets blown up by another cause.
