Since I roll my stats before chosing my race, I have not favorite really, though the bonuses given to Humans makes them a good default choice for me. I never played a campaign with any of the strange new races and classes, basic for me.

Barbarians or Fighter/Cleric mostly fighter/cleric

People underestimate your intel. and you can have a lot of fun.

Besides, I like playing Party Support roles, about half of my characters are female, and no one seems to mind.

Human Kensai-Mage (but BG only... the "real" kit sucks ass, I mean how do they expect to have a class that CANNOT use magical weapons??? I guess those warriors will never fight high-level animated or undead monsters )

Personally I'd think this was more gaming fodder...but anyway....
Race wise...I like my Tieflings....as for class...I'm always torn between wizard and rogue (both of which are great classes for a tiefling) being the smart ass that I am....I cant resist mixing the two, to create a nimble character with a twisted sense of humor and the ability to nuke people with a single word.....usually "ha!"

For a game I know is going to be low-level and short, I prefer humans - the extra feat can be a crucial difference at low levels of experience. Wise class and feat selection at later levels (8-10+) can negate the early advantage provided by the human bonus feat, though, so I might choose a different race - usually an elf - for a game that I know is going to last a long time or end at a high level.

Favorite classes:

Paladin, Fighter, 3.5E Ranger (before 3.5E, Ranger was not on my "favorite classes" list because it was really the weak sister of the fighting classes), Cleric, Rogue, Bard, Sorceror, Wizard... ;)

Done and done

Half Elf (or Dhampir - I've had a few games where they were actual racse) Ranger or Monk.

My favorite character was and still is the 1st edition half elf ranger. Rangers got a bit better in 3rd edition, but really got reamed up the ass in 2nd.

Why, one of the bonuses of the Kensai class is that thier chosen weapons are considered "Magical" for purposes of damaging Undead...

Yeah a Kensai/Mage in BG was SUPREME(Sorry having that much damage done and still can use Vecna's Robes...youch)

As for real I liked 1st Edition Barbarians or Rangers

For 2nd it was mages since they took some of the extras out of the fighting classes.

Haven't played enough of 3rd to makea clear choice.

For 3.5E, Rangers got noticeably buffed, as they got *TWO* good save progressions (FORT and REF) instead of one and the additional option of bow fighting style instead of two-weapon, all for the cost of one die step penalty (d10 to d8, which on average gives a *ONE* point reduction in HP).

Of course, I've always thought barbarians are a little too tough for the game's own good (d12 hit die + raging ability), but that's just me.

I had lots of fun playing the traditional Elven Archer, and I had a Dark Elf cleric, once who was great.
