Once, way back in the day, I did some highpoly modelling. Having finally found my 3dsmax CD, I decided to start up again.
I'd forgotten how much I like meshsmooth
Yes, I know there are a few smoothing errors. I'm not worried about those yet.

Hella kewl! Kinda looks like a warp-capable waverider to me. Keep it up!

i hate it, but fix those mesh errors by the nacelle cutouts.
and make the nacelles blend more. the ship is very smooth and sleek but the nacelles, as well as that upper protrusion, just dont fit.

I believe they're supposed to extend. Notice the arms?

The whole point is for them to
not blend. I'm not one for the melted-plastic organic look.

I don't want a bloody leaf flying around.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw it...

You know, if that deflector disk wasn't so "anti-aerodynamic", the whole ship could be a transatmospheric vehicle.

The main body looks great but the nacelles and the tilting system look like a tacked-on afterthought. It might look even better if you changed the angle of the support pylons so that they are flush with the underside of the wing until just before the end where the warp nacelle is attached, then kink them up 45 degrees. That'll give a better fit with the surface of the wing, and when you deploy the nacelles they'll be flat rather than anged down at the same angle as the wing. I just think that might make it look a little more interesting and smoother. I'd also ditch the big hinge and go for something less clunky looking, it doesn't fit with the smooth nature of the rest of the ship. That would also allow you to get the supporting pylons to fit better with the wings.

Would be cool to have the finished ship in bridgecommander...!!!

Can I use it in my fanfic?

This makes it rather hard and convoluted to hide the nacelles, which was the whole point.

I tried it, and I really didn't care for the looks.

This is a WIP. Its not supposed to look perfect.

Go through all that effort to make the system safer, then go for a substandard hinge?
That would also allow you to get the supporting pylons to fit better with the wings.
You're entitled to your wrong opinion.
Crix, it will probably make it in. Wouldn't be surprised, at any rate.
YT3e5, sure.

Sorry you felt the need to stamp on the idea, here it is illustrated in a quick render. As you can see we have a strong rotational joint and a better fit, but I can't play around with the angle of the nacelle on the end of the pylon perhaps as much as you can with your mesh. I'd have the nacelle appear either flat or vertical when the pylons are in the extended position if I did.

Thanks. It fits the part exactly. If you don't mind it being 1 km long.

Actually, the angle of the nacelle in the mesh is quite critical, else it starts poking out. Thats why I was forced to go with the flat nacelle when stowed. I kinda like the joint though, I'll look into that later.

I would like to do that, but I'm not sure if its really very possible.

I had about 400m in mind...

The way a Trek ship should look! Nacelles that are protected when not in use. Most Excellent design!

LOL
You know, I liked the first version, it gave an unfinished look, an afterthought compromise to the whole assembly if you will, as if the starship was a conversion from another design, where the nacelles either hadn't been installed, or weren't in their intended location.
