There's also the death thing and potentially long term brain damage through oxygen starvation etc...

Man invented the aeroplane to get around such pointless activities as climbing mountains. Even little puddle jumper flights go up to 32-35,000 feet, well above Everest's summit.

Eh, no more mountain climbing bashing, please, I love to climb.
The Everest is not in my immediate plans, though.
First the Alps, then I'll think about it.
Awsome site. Thanks for the view, Faram

I wasn't bashing Moutain Climbing. I was just saying that besides lazziness there are several levels of cowardliness that would keep me from climbing Mt. Everest. There's also the cost.
I've hiked to the top of mountains that are only 10-12,000ft high and there is something much cooler about that then flying.

Not really. Your garden variety Cessna couldn't hope to get that high.

I remember watching on Discovery a while back about how there are still bodies barely off the beaten path that will never decompose and weren't taken back down because the other members were too tired.
That's how I want to go. My own icy memorial.
Also, when they filmed Everest for the IMAX, the crew carried up the hundreds of pounds of filming equipment to get the shots. They better have been paid a Hell of a lot for that...

I'm talking more about like the small Saab twin turboprops and small jets that fly across larger states, and they do get up to 30-35,000 feet through they generally have to start descending about twenty minutes after reaching it.

I don`t think its cowardliness not wanting to climb the Everest, its more not wanting to be a Darwin Awards winner.

Not true. I recently went two such airplanes from central new york to south central pennsylvania and then from south central pennsylvania to central new york on the way back, both taking over an hour and neither reaching an altitude of more than 20,000 feet so

. What your saying is the excption not the rule. Trips running the edge of the distances flown with such small craft, Yes they do get up past everest hight, but the average turbo prop fight, NO. Just isn't practical for 20 year old planes with semi effective heating/cooling systems to fly at that altitude.
