Enterprise B

What do we actually know about E-B, besides who it's Captain was, what ship class she was and what happened on her maiden voyage? I was wondering why they would replace the E-B with an Ambassador.
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

ST: Echoes From the Past, a Sega Genesis game, gave a little of E-B's history.Aya wrote:What do we actually know about E-B, besides who it's Captain was, what ship class she was and what happened on her maiden voyage? I was wondering why they would replace the E-B with an Ambassador.
That information comes straight from the TNG TM.IG-88E wrote:ST: Echoes From the Past, a Sega Genesis game, gave a little of E-B's history.Aya wrote:What do we actually know about E-B, besides who it's Captain was, what ship class she was and what happened on her maiden voyage? Note that the following entry was written before ST: Generations, so Command and Commission data had not yet been written.
USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701-B
Commissioned: Data unavailable
Construction: Antares Shipyards
Command: Data Unavailable
Service: Key figure in exploration of space beyond the Gourami Sector. Responsible for mapping over 142 star sytems, including First Contact with 17 civilizations.
That is the full entry on the Enterprise-B in the TNG TM.The third Enterprise, NCC-1701-B, was an Excelsior class ship built at Starfleet's Antares Ship Yards. Although the decision to model this ship on the failed original expirmental Excelsior was at the time contraversial, the economics of using the existing (and otherwise successful) egineering of the basic spaceframe were compelling. The wisdom of this decision has been borne out by the large number of Excelsior class starships that still serve Starfleet in a variety of capacities. (Indeed, the Excelsior herself ultimately proved to be a distinguished part of the Starfleet.) The third Enterprise was a key figure in the exploration of the Gourami Sector. This ship and her responsible for the mapping of over 142 star systems, including first contact with seventeen civilizations.
No, it didnt. Its the forgotten Enterprise. So, it never did anything famous, like the other Enterprises?
Probably wanted to keep the Enterprise at the forefront of Federation tech which would involve replacing old Enterprise with newer one.Knife wrote:Perhaps the leap in or a major refinement of basic tech, made them 'modernize' their fleet. When the Cardassian war erupted, they had to fill in the fleet with older designes and after the war, they just kept the status quo.
Geez, the E-C is more famous than the E-B.Jadeite wrote:No, it didnt. Its the forgotten Enterprise. So, it never did anything famous, like the other Enterprises?
Famous or notorious? I bet the E-B went down in UFP history as the ship James T. Kirk died on.Aya wrote:Geez, the E-C is more famous than the E-B.Jadeite wrote:No, it didnt. Its the forgotten Enterprise. So, it never did anything famous, like the other Enterprises?
Actually, it did. They talked about that in ST: GenerationsIG-88E wrote:Famous or notorious? I bet the E-B went down in UFP history as the ship James T. Kirk died on.Aya wrote:Geez, the E-C is more famous than the E-B.Jadeite wrote: No, it didnt. Its the forgotten Enterprise.
I would watch that. But, they have to get the captian from the movie and get at least a few really well known good actors to be in the series.Isolder74 wrote:you know what would be cool fire B & B, get new writers, and start a new series based on the Enterprise-B!
Yes, that guy was cool. He was in Ferris Buelers day off.Admiral Johnason wrote:I would watch that. Well the simple answer is that it was a modifcation on the design that was useful but not needed in large numbers. There were likely more then what we saw, but they were useful for other purposes and they stayed out of the war. I am making assumptions, but they seem logical and they fit the facts.Uraniun235 wrote:Does anyone know why the E-B looks so much different than the standard Excelsior?
It raises a lot of problems. The Hood from TNG was an older Excelsior model (I doubt the Excelsior herself is still in service 80 years later), yet the Lakota from that one DS9 episode was the new-type Excelsior.
The answer I came across was that the E-B was built as a testbed for technology to detect ships that can fire while they are cloaked. I has extra Impulse Engines for more power and manueverability. Its sensors were extra sensitive and it hade torpedos with the Heat seaking modification from TUC standard. Apparently it wasn't seen as needed or the Romulans fanangled some treaty to stop production of the design changes.Uraniun235 wrote:Does anyone know why the E-B looks so much different than the standard Excelsior?

Grahm Kennedy came up with that.Isolder74 wrote:The answer I came across was that the E-B was built as a testbed for technology to detect ships that can fire while they are cloaked. Are you sure? I think my omnipedia had a reference to something similer. I can't check it cause someone ripped off my copy.Alyeska wrote:Grahm Kennedy came up with that.Isolder74 wrote:The answer I came across was that the E-B was built as a testbed for technology to detect ships that can fire while they are cloaked. you've got a point. In the Enterprise Incident Kirk goes through all this trouble to steal a Romulon Cloaking device and the Federation turns around and signs the Treaty of Algaria(or whatever) which make the Federation have or researching methods to detect Cloaked ships illegal. Kind of silly to send Kirk to Steal a Cloaking Device only to turn around a throw away the advantage by signing a treaty promising to give it back and not be able to take it apart. The Soviet Union once demanded the US return a defected MIG. They got it back all pieces present SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED.Uraniun235 wrote:WTF is with the Feds bending over and being anally plowed by the Romulans with all these fucking treaties?
Whoever wrote the story that has the "E-B type banned by treaty" excuse deserves a fucking kick in the balls.
I thought the Treaty of Algeron was signed at the end of the Earth/Romulan war in 2170's.Isolder74 wrote:you've got a point.
