And now I realize I have to rewrite the scene at the beginning of the thread anyway, because I forgot about the size of neurohelmets. The neurohelmet would have deflected the debris that killed the warrior. Damn.

The Clan mechwarriors have access to much more compact neurohelmets than their Inner Sphere counterparts, so it really isn't that big a problem.

Yes, but I've seen the Blood Spirit helmet, and it covers the neck. I think the difference in bulk is that it doesn't cover the shoulders nor the chest and back quite so much.
