I think the message is actually that believing that the government can reliably provide quality healthcare is as childish as believing in Santa. He's calling liberals stupid, not evil.
Because stopping Global Warming apparently leads to the destruction of a Nation!
No, he's saying that proposed regulations would affect a nation's economic competitiveness. His mistake is more in the last panel, wherein he implies that India and China are intelligent for ignoring this problem, rather than just greedy and short-sighted.
Because ANYthing the Democrats do MUST be bad for America!
It was more specific than that. He's saying Democrats are attempting to solve this problem with the same methods that created it. It's really more of a false analogy - Democrats are trying to bolster the economy through increased spending. The water in the boat (which I'm assuming is America's growing debt, which has nothing to do with the economy) is just a red herring.

PainRack wrote: Nonsense. A good political cartoon aims to illustrates its point. You ever read Punch?
If the cartoon shows it point only via using obscure or dedicated ideological means, then yes, it would be bad as other members of the audience won't get it. But given the news coverage and ideological meaning of the words, neither the community organiser bit, socialism bit or etc IS a bad political cartoon.
I think it's a matter of varying definitions. For me, a political cartoon which brilliantly illustrates a point that's complete nonsense (or an ourtight lie) is a bad cartoon, much like brilliant rhethoric used in support of a dumb or reprehensible position is really bad rhetoric.
PainRack wrote: It may not be an accurate or an indepth anaylsis, but then again, since when was propaganda supposed to be accurate?
If it's full of transparent lies, then it can't really be that good of a propaganda piece :)
PainRack wrote: Are you seriously attempting to argue that political cartoons are supposed to be news?
They're supposed to be satire. Satire can support a political position, but good satire shouldn't use lies or misleading imagery to do it (Even if you believe socialism will destroy America, it's still quite a big leap to go from there to "Democratcs are intentionally trying to ruin America".

Ando, I wouldn't call either of those cartoons "terrible". The first one especially is very elegant.

You know, as bad as some of the shit in this thread is, it absolutely pales in comparison to the "cartoons" that conservapedia has started to post. Unfortunately, posting them to this thread isn't an option for me right now, but if you want to see some hilariously lazy straw manning, not to mention rudimentary artistic skills at best, head to their homepage and take a look.

Is this one of the shitty Conservapedia cartoons you're talking about? (image is big)

That cartoon is as silly and amateurish the BNP's puppet shows.

Okay, WTF? At least the other cartoons on this page actually have some effort art wise. That thing is grade school level in art and lack of wit. Wait, no, that's not fair. I've had classmates in grade school with better humor than that.

And now a collection of cartoons, all from Mr.Ramirez, I don't know what it is about him but he irks me more then most others. Its something in his drawing style that just makes his cartoons seem more patronizing and offensive then others. Here for instance are Three cartoons in the space of three days all dealing with the attempted airline bombing...

Image

Image
This one I want to mention just because of the "Government fails at security...AGAIN"
"Again? really? can someone enlighten me what other times there has been attempted terrorists attacks since Obama took over? Because gee-wizz, when I think Govenment failing at security 9/11 comes to mind!

Image
And then there is this, thats right because evidently letting prisoners out of Gitmo somehow led to new terrorists bombing planes?
And how about the allusion that Obama is blissfully unaware of the situation... Taking what was it, less then a Day to put out a statment? Not at all like Bush, who during the Shoe Bombing took several DAYS to get his ass together.

And finally one more involving Healthcare
Image

Because the image of a dark skinned WithcDoctor doesn't have Annnny connotations does it?
And lets say I am reading too far into that and just go with the premise the new Healthcare Bill is, what, going to cost so much that.. We can't buy doctors?

And last but not least, a horrible mention to Gary McCoy:
Image
For bringing up the oh so nefarious "Death Panels" once again!

I'll let you decid just how 'terrible' these are, but they certainly rub me the wrong way,

It took me a while to get the two comics side by side till I realized when the first one was drawn...
So yeah,,, During Bush, He was making fun of those silly people who were all 'hysterical' about NSA wire taps and infringing civil liberties.. Making a note that indulging in Liberties makes us "Fat" IE unsafe.

And his most recent one, well, how the shoe is on the other foot huh? Suddenly he is just so concerned about our precious freedoms now...

And just to add some additional truly lopsided portrayals...

Isn't it nice how Palosi and Reid appear ready to cut open a small child?
Or how Michael Obama is drawn with an evil snide look for no reason what so ever?

You see, conservatives like that don't have a full view of how they want things to be. They separate each individual issue into its own thing based on gut feelings without regard to any overall consistency.

Do you want to be safe from terrorists? Yes.

Do you want intrusive security measures? No.

Do you want bags to be thoroughly searched? Yes.

Do you want to wait longer at the airport? No.

Nothing so extreme. Pelosi's holding a syringe, and while Reid is holding a scalpel, he's holding what looks to be Uncle Sam down, not the kid.

Of course, the kid, who looks like a boy, appears to be wearing a polka-dotted skirt and men's loafers, so he's pretty clearly not all there in the head, and whatever's she's injecting him is either his medication or a sedative so he can't harm himself or others in a place like the White House. :P
