The other day Steve and I were throwing around some ideas. One I came up with was that the last time somebody made a genuine effort to conquer all of Omnia one PMC whose divisions were about to be overrun took a cargo ship, fitted it with radio controls, crammed it chock full of explosives, sailed it into the offending party's harbor and detonated the whole shebang, causing a frankly obscene amount of devastation. As a warning shot, you see. One that could be heard all the way back in San Dorado.

Unfortunately I haven't found the right target yet to have subjected to this Fireship Deluxe. Might you be willing to volunteer? :D
Feel free to have attacked me. Then we can see ships on fire off the Shoulder of Orion, uh, I mean Cape Betelgeuse :D

Were you trying to conquer Omnia too? Hold on, how many folks were involved in this business? And when was the last attempt made? Because I figured things had been pretty stable since the seventies.

I may have been involved. I can be if needed. I just thought it too good a chance to not use that line :D

As an aside, how many of your nations have banned whaling and/or killing of other cetaceans? Might have a huge effect on how the public opinion in Rheinland (about a fourth of Rheinlanders worship at the cult of the dolphin) views your nation. Also might or might not in a visit by the Likedeelers to your nation.

We outlawed it back in 1973 or so, when we concluded it had no scientific purpose.

Whaling has officially been outlawed for a good century or so in Arcadia.

Siege, they weren't trying to conquer all of Omnia, they were simply counter-attacking into Omnian territory when Omnia tried to take some or all of their land. Get it straight. :P

And FL, is that really when you want your anti-Omnian effort? Given how things were laid out, it could mean you end up on Britonia's side of the war. Aka the Losing Side.

As for whales? KILL EM ALL MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Actually no, I'm joking. Among the First Nations of Cascadia, many that have ties to the coast have venerated orcas and consider them living beings with their own unique names. Even when whaling was okay, it's likely Cascadia forbade orca whaling, and other forms of whaling died out through the course of the 20th Century. Cascadia is a signatory to all anti-whaling agreements and any vessel caught whaling in our EEZ will be intercepted by Cascadian coast guard or naval forces and they will be boarded, have their whaling gear dismantled, and their command crews arrested and charged. Forces operating overseas will gladly aid similar service with any nation that has similar policies.

Umerians would probably have been persuaded to abandon whaling by some treaty negotiator asking them to in exchange for petty-change benefits in negotiations.

To quote the Little Blue Book, Entry #198:

"What, that? It bothers you? Sure, why not stop doing it. We weren't that hungry anyway."

However, if it is ever established that, say, gray whales are sentient, you might well see Umerian ASW helicopters in their EEZ patrolling and monitoring orca pods, in order to minitorpedo any of them that go after the gray whales in question: "we've got an attempted murder in progress at the corner of 31 degrees 12 minutes and 44 degrees 21 minutes, the Big White Spot pod is at it again!"

When Umerians decide to care about saving the whales, they're nonspecific as to what they will save the whale from.

Whales born in Hawai'ian waters have always had protections as there were seen as natives (the Channels of 'Au'au, 'Alalākeiki, & Kealaikahiki are primary humpback birthing grounds). This was extended to ban whaling and whaling ships in Hawai'ian waters and ports in the 1910s. This now includes the entire EEZ.

In Champa, Whales are tasty, and a useful source of traditional medicine.
The exception to the rule is the shovel-nosed estuary dolphin, who is considered sacred to the God of the Brown Tide and only eaten occasionally.

Tianguo has no laws against whaling. However, there's no market for whale meat in its borders.

Hey, is there a map version with country names on it floating around? It's a little tricky to keep track of who's where...

If there is no market, and many other nations ban it for whatever reason, why not have some law against it? You wouldn't upset anyone in your nation and it would be a good PR move on the world stage.

And yeah, I'd second a request for a map with nation names, or at least a colour key.

Nah, E_F, let Beowulf be. After all, that might allow for some more Rheinland diplomacy.

True. Some Orion diplomacy too no doubt.

 Your tourists are most welcome to worship at the temple of the বাদামী জোয়ার "bādāmī jōẏāra". If they would like to take a little bottle of blessed whale oil home with them, it is said nothing is more effective for the cold. Also good for men's health.

Dreisgrond doesn't allow whaling of any sort, but is facing internal pressure from native groups to allow them to take limited numbers.

I think I got everyone labeled correctly (forgot to put NPC by Omnia though). If I missed/mislabeled anything let me know.

EDIT: Okay, that should have fixed the issue. Expanded the List too.

Pacific North America=Cascadia
Orange: Komradistan
Light blue: Tianguo
FF 7 Land: Shinra
Red Islands: Fuso
Orange group of islands: Arcadia
Dark Purple: Umeria
Light Purple: UOCSR
Green:Kagaria
Yellow: Granadia
Light(er) blue: Mesopotamia

I'll fix the image too.

So far as I know, Omnia is the colored bit. I think Steve posted a map of Omnia a bit back. Page 22 I think.

So which state has an african-like fauna where I can import my leopards from?
