There are somethings from Armada 2 that would work great in the Trekverse. First two are mines, a Feddie mine and a Klingon mine. The Feddie one pretty much floats dormant in space after it's deployed, only activating when it detects an enemy ship approaching. It then activates and detonates when said ship gets close enough. The Klingon mine is a gravity mine. Basically, once it attaches to the hull of a ship, it exerts gravitons or something and acts like gravity wells, preventing warp and slowing the ship's impulse speed. Imagine ships like Defiants, Sovereigns or other ships equipped with them.
Anyways, time for another refit ship. This time, it's a Miranda.
Class: Miranda Variant IV
Type: Troop transport
Nacelles: Two
Size: Medium
Weapons: Type IX phasers and maybe one launcher
Defense: Shields and batmobile armor
Warp speed:
Cruising - 6.5-8.0
Max - 9.5 for up to twelve hours
Backstory: After the Dominion War, the Federation was faced with the reality of the number of ground forces they lost. Realizing that simply arming security officers with phasers wasn't going to cut the mustard, it was decided that it was time for the creation of an organization, similar to Starfleet, but focused on maintaining a Federation army. The organization, known as The United Federation Armed Forces, was faced with a problem though. They need ships dedicated solely to the transport of troops to a location. Standard starships would do, but they needed one that could carry not only soldiers, but also enough transport to carry them down to the surface of a planet, a starbase or anywhere they couldn't beam to. They couldn't wait for a brand new ship to be designed and built, as troops would need to be ferried around quite a bit in Cardassian territory.
The easiest solution was to refit an existing ship class to act as a stop gap until a new class could designed and built. Many ships were considered, including Sydney, Curry, Excelsior, Constellation and even Constitutions. Ultimatly, it was decided that since a large number of Mirandas were already in drydock undergoing refits into supply transports, that they would be used instead. All non essential equipment was removed and the hull was lengthened (think Soyuz). The warp core was also replaced by the same core Defiants are equipped with. The new extended after section is a launch bay for troop shuttles. The quarters were also changed to carry 6-8 bunked beds. All crewmen and marines share quarters, save for the Captain, XO and possibly the commander of the soldiers.
Great strides were taken to try and reduce the needed number of crewmen for the transports, as to provide as much living space for soldiers as possible. As such, the ship was not only automated as much as possible, but also became one of the first classes to try out the new Holographic Engineering Team (HET). The HETs were based on the success of the EMHs and the promising prospect of the ECHs. In a nutshell, they're holograms with an engineering database, instead of a medical database. They also have engineering logs from the likes of Scottie, Jordie and possibly O'Brian and Torres. The HETs are equipped with mobile emitters, that way, if the emitters installed on the ship go offline, the HETs won't. Engineering still has a biological Chief though.
Oh and I've toyed with the idea of having the HETs look like either Scottie or Jordie. Though, the image of an engine room filled with Scotties is sort of scary.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the rollbar is gone.
