I don't; sorry Aya, but I just think that focusing on the Dominion War would be detrimental.JME2 wrote:I like. That could easily work as a mini-series as well. Perhaps Pocket Books could be persuaded to adopt the idea into an ongoing series.
Pre-TOS, done RIGHT; post-TOS, pre-TNG. These are the periods that fascinate me about ST. Think about it:
Pre-TOS, EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT ST was formed. The Federation? Check. Starfleet? Check. The Earth-Romulan War? Check. The 'disastrous' Klingon first contact? Check.
Post-TOS, pre-TNG, we had things like the cardassian war, the first contact with the Ferengi, Klingon society changed, Romulan society changed, Federation society changed, Starfleet's priorities changed. And so on...
These are the periods of time where a LOT of ST's backstory takes place, but is never covered. Seriously, ENT had the right idea but the poorest execution. It doesn't have to be like that.

Aya wrote:I wouldn't mind seeing a series based in an alternate universe where the Dominion won the war. The opening scenes in the first episode would be like this:
"...During the height of the Dominion War the USS Defiant and her Captain, Benjamen Sisko boldly attempted to stop the incoming Dominion reenforcements from coming through the wormhole." *Scene shows a float mass of wreckage. a close up shot one such piece of wreckage shows the name USS Defiant* "...but they failed."
*Que several scenes showing the destruction of several Fed/Klingon/Romulan fleets, the bombardment of key worlds , including Kronos, Vulcan and Andor*
"It was a fateful day when the enemy prepared to cross the threshold of Sol. The remaining ships of the Federation and the allies who had not deserted her (The Klingon government suffered a coup and fled Kronos and the Romulans signed a cease fire. Not to say the fleet was devoid of Klingon or Romulan ships, some chose to stay) rendevoused and prepared themselves for armageddon. The outcome of this battle would decide the fate of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants..."
*Several scene transitions in this one. First showing a mass of Dominion, Cardassian and Breen warships moving towards their target. The second scene shows a rag tag fleet of allied ships, many of which are suffering varied states of damage. The Federation has become so desperate for ships that they've pulled ships not only from their own starfleet from mothball, but old outdated ships from their member worlds, such as Andor and Vulcan. Anyways, third scene shows the two fleets clashing with more explosions in the first few seconds than in five John Woo films. Scene would then shift to a post battle scene. There's a shitload of wreckage everywhere, from both fleets. Camera would focus on a burning starfleet vessel, a Sovereign class, floating dead in space. A close up of its saucer shows its name - USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E*
"...But they in the end, they failed."
*Scene switches to the assault and capture of the Utopia Planetia shipyards and the orbital bombardment of Earth*
The series would more or less be about the few remaining allied ships that either managed to escape or weren't present at the battle. They would obviously continue to fight against the Dominion, but in a more guerella style. Anyways, thats how I'd do it.
If they did such a series, I would forever renounce Star Trek and personally strangle the people responsible for it.

Eh. It doesn't deserve to go in there, except for maybe a few choice episodes. I liked A Time to Stand, for instance, and In the Pale Moonlight and Inter Arma Enem Silent Leges. But as for the rest...Nieztchean Uber-Amoeba wrote:I wouldn't do another series based on the Dominion War; that arc took up half a series, was done well, and tied up nicely. Bury in the Hall of Fame and move on.
ST should be remembered for it's stand alone episodes; the Yesterday Enterprise and City on the Edge of Forever type of stories. Not for it's arcs. They simply put, don't do them well enough.

An alteranate Dominion War thing that ultimately 'fails' is like the ultimate 'reset button'. Sorry dude, blah.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

A multitude of them.Stofsk wrote:Why, out of curiosity? What are your reasons?
I dislike the scenario as a whole. It's not Star Trek. Even if I dislike the stuck up arrogant UFP of canon I think Star Trek's very character necessitates a light setting with hope, not some dark "evil alien empire conquers all" setting.
I don't think the writers could do the concept justice.
Finally, and most importantly.... I FUCKING HATE THE GOD DAMNED DOMINION AND I WANT THEM TO BURN AND BURN AND BURN AND FRY LITTLE PIGGY FRY BURN THEM ALL MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, where was I? OH yes. Dislike the scenario, don't think think the concept would be done right, and I spent the run of DS9 eagerly awaiting every Dominion episode in the hopes of seeing the fuckers getting their asses kicked again.

It would serve them right. On the DAY Roddenberry died, Berman, with lawyer in tow, cleaned out the Trek offices at Paramount, and wouldn't even let them take personal things off their desk with them.JME2 wrote:It'll be interesting to see if they are told to vacate their offices. Though it would be fitting for Berman, as Cocytus is the final stop for Traitors to God, Country, Family, and Benefactors.

D'oh! Knew I forgot something... And that is why I picked that one specifically (more Specifically Judecca in the 9th circle, which is where Treacherous to their masters are).Steve wrote:Um, you don't burn in the 9th Circle of Hell. The rebels would eventually win, of course, but at a cost. Earth is heavily bombed from orbit by the retreating Dominion forces (this would be in like season four or five). Near the end, a new Federation is founded, composed of the original Federation, Klingons, Romulans and possibly the Gorn.Steve wrote:A multitude of them.Stofsk wrote:Why, out of curiosity? Oh please! Isn't it time to simply call it a day? Alt-Dominion War series, Section 31 series, Spacedock 90210 series; these drift so far from what Star Trek was ever conceived of being that you may as well simply do such shows but have different trappings and call them something else entirely. It's fairly clear that Star Trek's had its time but the ride's come to an end now. The point of diminishing returns was hit around TNG's 6th season and the creative degeneration of the Franchise from that point is indicative. Star Trek should have been gracefully retired after "All Good Things" and allowed to transition back to the realm of the fandom extended-universe for about ten or fifteen years, where the legacy could have been nurtured along with some fresh talent and creativity. Thanks to Paramount's greed, though, that legacy is polluted with the taint of three failed spinoffs and four failed films of diminishing quality reaching down to the nadir that is Boobyprise.
Star Trek has become a sick joke and a pale shadow of what it once was and today's SF audiences have moved well beyond it. Star Trek will never regain its lustre trying to be everything other than what it is and now the only thing that can be done for it is to simply let it die for ten years, twenty years, maybe even longer. It could be that it may never be revivable and if that is the case, that's simply the way it is. Nothing is forever. But truth should be faced: the cancellation of Boobyprise is the end-result of a ten year disaster that's taken the whole Franchise down with it. Let Star Trek die. It's become like a hopelessly vegetative coma patient. Time to simply unplug the life-support and let it die.

I think it's time to let Trek rest in piece. No more. It's had a good run, now let it die. Of course, the US TV networks are among the thickest collections of people on the planet, so I doubt they'll heed this advice.

After watching brilliant sci-fi like Farscape and Firefly being bumped off by idiot network execs, it is very, very refreshing to witness the axing of a truly horrific show. Took them too many years, but they finally killed it. Bullet to the brainpan.
Now, we can only hope it doesn't rise out of it's coffin, Dracula/Harvey-style, anytime in the near future.
