No, no... I can deal with whatever xenophobic prejudice you send my way. I will survive!

Thirdfain, does the Voice of the Speaker know nothing of proper diplomatic procedure? There ought to be at least three months more of unimportant chitchat before we get to this stage of the negotiations... :D

The ambassador's sister is just a bit xenophobic, by the way. She was sent along to keep Arabella from agreeing to anything too quickly, and it shows.

We don't live long enough for such scuttlebutt and mumbo-jumbo.

And caution is all well and good, I suppose. Maybe the Ousters should learn a little about it some day?

Hence the "xenophobic prejudice" The archelonians are long lived (average life expectancy is measured in centuries not decades), usually reproduce slowly (they can bump it up if need be) mature slowly (sexual maturity at 20 years), and are naturally cautious. :angelic:

But your people have never even SEEN Ousters before. How would you know about their lifecycle?

Just like any invasive species that expands its range...

Now, I know the Ousters played a major part in dismembering not one, but two of your previous empires, but that's no reason to get testy, mmm? let's let bygones be bygones.

I know you too well thirdfain. Hopefully I will do better this time. I am older, smarter, and have a strategic map :)

The point behind that comment though is that a lot if information is easy to infer from reports from spacers and the like, and I paid good points for a strong intel service.

How would "reports from spacers" inform you about intimate details of biology? You know there are a lot of Ousters, and they live in space, and they have rapidly taken over significant territories in the rim. Something like the pace at which they breed? Come on.

That rapid expansion and resource collection requires a population, which you would not have huge stockpiles of on generation ships. Very easy to infer relatively rapid breeding capacity.

Besides compared to giant turtles everyone breeds rapidly...

How do you know that? They could have been coldsleep ships, with millions packed in like sardines. Or we could do our building with robots. Or slave labour. Or the Ousters could be an AI robot race which uses bio-manufactured waldos to communicate with others. You just don't know.

As a matter of fact, the Ousters have been here for only a year, so they ARE the population of the generation ships- there's been only a single generation born since arrival, and none are even close to adulthood. it still takes years for an Ouster to mature.

-edit-

Rechecked some of my facts. Ousters have been hre for only about 15 months, with the largest Ouster forcce, the 9th Expansion Arm, not even being around that long. Term to birth is about 4 months, so there have been 3 litters or so born since the arrival... but since it takes 8 years to grow an Ouster to adulthood, the working manpower has not been increased whatsoever. My statement that the Ouster numbers ARE those who arrived in the generation ships is correct.

Again, I asked if you wanted me to edit it. I was unsure of precise timelines anyway. You rejected the idea. I still can if you would prefer that.

Or there could be mixed truth in the inference. He sees a species that has been here for a year, that seems organic, and expands rapidly. He thinks "Spawning" with derision. So there was a grain of truth and some inaccuracy in his reasoning. Suffice to say, the intelligence gathering back and forth between us in game will be rather interesting :)

Meh, I mean, it's all pretty unimportant at this stage. It's just that I go to great lengths to reign in my natural aggression and hatred, so I'd appreciate it if everyone didn't just scream "Gross! Kill it before it breeds!"

I got enough of that from my ex.

Well "Gross! Kill it Before it Breeds!" is my natural response to heterosexual humans. :P

Man I'm surprised that nobody's shunned Mahal.

I guess that despite his poorly described freaky exterior he's just a nice guy! :V

I guess the Four made the right choice picking him to represent Guymelus instead of one of their zombies.

How do you know no one has shunned Mahal? I'm not talking to him.

Well yeah, but...and I'm no xenophobe...you're a bunch of DIRTY FILTHY FLESHLINGS!!!

No hard feelings, but even if we had info on you guys, wouldn't be trying to talk to a bunch of lost causes like you. :P

EDIT: As it is you'll probably be Mahal's last stop before turning in for the evening.

So.. Alyrium, do you plan to respond to my queries or?

And Thirdfain, where exactly do you plan to expand to?

*writes notes to Dahak for possible talks*

White Haven, what do suppose the chances of Ardelia, Kaeleer's resident spymaster on Unity Station, spotting your man listening in on the Ousters and my own ambassador?

Smile, be polite and act like you're friends with everyone. Lots of chummyness here. Least till the main game thread starts and the knives come out. Though the diplomacy thread will remain the diplomacy thread when the game thread is made.
