I disagree with many of you that the series got worse as it went on. Star by Star was CLEARLY their best book, and I think that the runner-up is Traitor. I don't care what faults the series had, Star by Star was a GREAT read.

I also find fault with much of the series, but I think it got better instead of worse. I didn't mind Anakin's death so much. I loved Anakin as a character, and I thought Jacen should have been the one to get the axe, but I was satisfied by the end of that book that he had to die.

BTW, Ganner Rhysode is also dead, now, as are many other Jedi. He was a reasonably developed character. Fans of the YJK series, and the Children of the Jedi (if there were any fans, of either) would be saddened by the death of Lusa. I just laughed, though. Served her right. You are right, though, the most significant deaths, of course, were those of Chewie and Anakin.

What was the Pipefighter project supposed to be anyway?

And the next person who describes it as "it was just a hoax" will find a thermal detonator at his front door. I want a description of what the project was supposed to be before Mr. Jackass writer turned it into a hoax :P

Pipefighter was basically a way to make shots from other star systems into target systems, with FTL propagation(The Empire apparantly has this hammered out. A ISD-II variant, described in the SWRPG 'NJO Sourcebook', has an axial superlaser, with equivalent power to the DS, with a range of 1 Lightyear). You hit your opponent from so far out he can't find you.

Yes, and I did like Vergere's dream on the matter. I think it both ironic, funny, and very honorable that the Yuuzhan Vong would adapt their religion as such, following the Death of a Jedi Knight.

Also, Chief of State Fey'lya is also dead. He killed himself as Coruscant died around him.

It was a beam weapon mounted on several fighters working together that was suppose to use a Giant lightsaber crystal to create a beam of energy that could destroy a world ship. It had FTL speed and the accuracy to hit at ranges in the hundreds or thousands of light years.

It was not. Allston made that clear in the second book of his duology - the entire thing was an elaborate hoax, and I'm, for one, quite glad that they aren't resorting to 'superweapons' to win the war.

Spoilers follow

pg 249 of Traitor

Somebody bombed Fey'lya's office?" Ganner muttered to the back of Jacen's head. " Before or after the invasion?"
( description of scene taken out)
Jacen: " They say Fey'lya set off the bomb himself. They say he took out something like 25,000 crack troops and a bunch of high ranking Vong officers- including the drop commander."
Ganner: " They who? Who says?"
Jacen: " The Yuuzhan Vong themselves. They admire that kind of thing. They look on Fey'lya as a kind of minor hero."
Ganner: " Huh. They didn't know him like we did."
Jacen's shoulders twitched in what might have been a shrug, " And maybe we didn't know him as well as we should have."

Actually, I like the way that he sets up things like that throughout his stories. I am kind of saddened, though, that some people do not pay even enough attention to realize it is a hoax. That was kind of the point of that whole portion of the books! I am also glad that they are not resorting to superweapons, and I was very pleased with that set of books, though they were not as good as Star by Star.

BTW, how come everyone says that the Imperial Remnant is the Galaxy's last hope? Their resources pale in comparison with those available to the Chiss, and the Chiss have been preparing for war for several decades, whereas the Empire was growing weary of war and preparing for peace. I think that the Chiss are the last, untapped source of power for the Galaxy. They will be the group whose actions or inactions determine the fate of the Galaxy.

Well maybe the Chiss and the Empire will be joining forces to crush the YV. With the Chiss's Industrial Capacity they could possibly build a Death Star with help from the Empire. I would not be surprised if a DS made an appearance in the next few books.

I personally dont have a problem with the dieing of characters. This is going to happen in time. I do have a problem with the predictability though. It is definately redundant.

I am sorry guys, but where is this whole uber Chiss stuff coming from? In VOTF, it was stated that they had a huge territory, however IIRC not all of it was populated or colonised by the Chiss, I mean the impression I got off from Mara was that most of it was just garrisons and the like. Surely the Remanant would be better equipt since, one assumes, it's territory is heavily industralised and populated.

If everyone is getting this from another reference, could you all let me know, I would love to read it! :D

From VOTF it's stated that the Chiss have shipyards and other industry plus garrisons stationed throughout unknown regions.

Crown, it makes no difference most of the Empires Worlds were merely small Garrisions (50 Million Garrision or Colonies to the 12 Million Inhabitated Systems as referenced on Dr. Saxton SWTC) you use those worlds to draw Natural Resources to build your Armed Forces & Civilian Works, thus it doesn't matter if you have grrisons but that your machine is in motion

Uh, typo thats "war machine" and the phrase should be "doesn't matter if most are garrisions". Sorry, abou the second post but I can't edit it.

SirNitram wrote:While some rationalize the nonsense, it was rather clear from the one that introduced the Pipefighter that it was supposed to be a success. Now, if the next person immediately erases that with the simple words 'It's a hoax'(Regardless of rationalizations), isn't that just cheapening the whole point? I can't help but feel the authors there were trying to undermine each other, and I doubt it'll be the last.
Oh please, Allston intended it from the beginning to be a Hoax, heck it was practically written all over it in Rebel Dream, Rebel Stand just confirmed my suspicions, not that I mind, I prefer it this way, uber range for TL's y'know.

Well we wouldn't want Allston to turn into a JKA now would we? Superweapons=bad. So I'm glad it was a hoax. I think for those who were fooled (ie me) it was a blow to the gut, after all we wanna see those YV bastards pay, but a superweapon is simply not the way to go.
