Again, just go ahead and rename it ""our private angsty teenagers secret bedroom club" and be done with it. The few older, a bit more social members can be the parents.

Just over the past few days I can think of another example, perhaps you werent there for Bunny's great idea of inviting someone that found the chat back in after chasing them off just to get everyone to say "Fuck you" to them...real charming.

I tend to agree with Chardok, it's all in the way you take things and things said in the chat should be taken as a joke. If they want you to know that it's meant to hurt they'll let you know.

Anyway I also think that some folks should stop being so rude but as I said before it's just the way this particular chat room is like. I highly doubt this thread will get every chat member to change their behaviour.

Oh and I had no idea that went on either Keevan, when did it happen, and could you pm me with the info on who they did this to? It might give me some explanation as to why it may have happened and it may help me explain to you why it happened.

Well, if someone takes offense to an F-bomb being dropped a few times in their general direction, how do you think they will respond to a heated debate about straight hentai vs. Tentacle pr0n? Or which power ranger is the best? Or the famous "Mating Habits of Mecha" discussion. Call it a litmus test.

Or the older more mature chat members could just ignore the angsty teenagers and maybe then they will stop being so angsty. I personally don't go there to be more of a mother. I get that enough at home here and now on SdNet... see my av bar ;) The chat is a place for me to let lose and act normal, a place where I can act silly and not be called a child or immature. People actually like it when I act all silly... see here...

I thought Sparky set it up. Or at least she posted a thread calling for people back in the day.

At any rate, I ask about people I don't recognize all the time. I like associating names to avatars from the board.

When I started joining the SDNet chat room *(yes I know it's not an official thingy), EVERY TIME I joined, someone would say "Whois theDixen?" or "Does anybody know this person?" without even waiting long enough to see if I might actully belonged there.

Folks, I realize you've had to deal with drive-bys and bashers and trollers... but is this really the way we want to deal with potential new members? Quite honestly, I was annoyed enough that I don't like to come into the chat unless I know that there's someone there to "smack down" the smartasses for me. (Someday I'll have been a member long enough to squash the people who tick me off!)

Next time you're in SDNet Chat and someone you don't know comes in, why not wait a few minutes to see if anyone greets them as if they know them before presuming they're just there to cause trouble...

LadyJules, aka theDixen
My standard greeting for people I don't recognize is "Hi. Who the hell are you?" If the newbie is offended by this, he's obviously not from SD.net. :P

Mm... I do think there should be a quick advisory note put into the chat sticky in Testing, pointing out a few things... even if not, here's my take on it...

a.) It's not officially a part of the board. No moderation, no rules, nothing.

b.) Some chatters (they know who they are) tend to be pricks towards newbs. Some tend to be pricks, period. If they're annoying enough, just put them on ignore without saying so and continue discoursing with everybody else.

c.) Expect immaturity, long discussions about the most peculiar topics, immaturity, the occasional exchange of porn, the occasional monologue, a few cussing matches, and did I mention immaturity?

d.) Try and be tolerant. Some of 'em are decent enough folks; others are plain assholes, while a few are wont to excrete AOL-speak barrages and spam up the chat. Again, the ignore button helps there.

e.) Arguments on there will at times get nasty. A few members have credited themselves with running off other chatters; these, obviously, fall pretty much under those described in b.) and d.). Give as good as you get if you get into one, and they'll back off; if you're not into arguing, just iggy them until they forget whatever it was about you that set them off.

That's how I treat the chat anyway... some days I don't know why I go back, but eh. -shrugs- It's relaxing to slum sometimes... :P

You can invite yourself. Go to the annoucement in the HoS and follow the directions.

The whole system of PMing kalev, bunny or I for the chat's name (which is ludicriously easy to figure out) was done because we had problems with a banned user showing up recently and harassing the entire chat, trying to get everyone to play their games. Hence why that was set up. Outside from that, there is nothing stopping anyone from joining it.

Jules, trust me, I've been around alot longer than you have and I seriously doubt they're being hostile when they ask who you are. Simply curious.
Ace Pace wrote: Who was the bloody idiot who got annoyed? I mean, bad day and all that but its a open chat.
It was Tit. I wouldn't say he was "annoyed that a board member they hadn't invited was there", so much as that he was just being himself.

In your world perhaps, but here in reality it was done in an effort to keep people like AssassinX from coming into the chat to irritate us. Now that the thread is only viewable by logged in members there is no need for the edits I made.

I liked how you assumed I would edit a supermod's post without saying anything to her, btw.

No. The room we're talking about was started by AnimeJet.

Stranger still when we ASKED SAID SUPERMOD, she said she made no such change. Thus you asked and she didn't remember, and got too fucking antsy and leapt up abusing your miniscule power.

Perhaps you should've asked again, and let her do her own change.

Could you rephrase that a bit? It seems kinda jumbled. Maybe explain your understanding of the chain of events in a more detailed, timeline form.

We asked the supermod, she claims no change was made. You asked, you didn't get a response or didn't get the response you wanted, and you acted outside of the scope of your power.

Perhaps you could start trying to justify your actions, because really, right now it looks like you need humbled very publically.

I do apologize to my sister-in-law; but sometimes one must deal with the laundry where it lays.

Yes, but as I said, they didn't ask *me*, they said in the main room, "Does anyone know this person?" and "Who is theDixen?" as if I had no right to be there. You want to know who someone is, and suspect they've just wandered in off the street (so to speak), ask *them* who they are, and maybe even explain what SDNet is about.

And, maybe I'm old fashioned, but I was always taught that you begin a conversation with hello and a smile. A little manners goes a long way, as have learned those who have begun a conversation with me politely before we degenerated into sex and insults ;)

And Nit, darlin', you're forgiven. It's easier to forgive you than it is to avoid my bestest friend in the whole world <*veg*>

Oftentimes, there's sex and insults going on in the chat when someone pops in, and they'll get stuff going on like this

fimagal2001 has joined the room.
Einhander Sn0m4n (9:55:19 PM): and el, if you curse out this n00b, I will remove your gray matter with a Railgun Slug, capisce? :D

but worse, so don't take it too personally if you pop in, and someone mentions donkey porn.
