It looks to me like this guy Hidalgo also had a hand in a lot of RPG material. Course, I don't know if he's responsible for the messed up numbers. But if he is, a pox at you!

So Pablo´s had some sort of agenda with trying to ridicule fans by assisting in the creation of shitty RPG/fact-books?

Wow, what a kick to the groin. :x

Probably why he has such a stiff against people like Mike and Curtis. They are a threat to his importance and the continued wait and proliferation of his crap.

Imagine if everyone took a Suspension of Disbelief/canon heirarchy view of the material. How many completist fanboys would be left to suck up his RPG stats and Insider articles just because?

If Endor was fried or not is irrelevant. I don't really care, as long as Lucasfilm had taken a strong position one way or the other.

But this response is complete and utter bullshit. Saying 'fuck you' to your most supportive fanbase OFFICALY, is fucking stupid. Especially as I bet that the vast majority of people on web boards like SD.net or SB.com or any of the other major intellectually oriented scifi boards actually have far more knowledge of physics then the dickheads like this guy.

Insulting a major part of your fanbase who calls your complete BS is NOT a good way to keep it, especialy one thats becoming disillusioned with the SW franchise.

At the risk of being assaulted, I agree that the physics of the destruction of the death star should have destroyed all higher life on Endor (some single cell organisms are incredibly tough) but I always assumed that the people at lucasfilm did not consider this.
I was kind of waiting for something like this to happen.

LFL is full of fucking idiots; simple as that.

Come on; this is like detonating a frag grenade beside a beach ball and expecting it to not even be scored by the blast.

I think you're right. I see now that he's the "Internet Content Developer for The Official Star Wars website" as well. Fan's beware..

Exactly. He could have simply said"It is the official position of Lucasfilm that Endor survived the destruction of the Death Star". Instead he wrote a good sized chunk with multiple barbs in it.

Would it be possible for someone who has the issue to quote the response? Im just curious to read exactly what he says.

Yeah, me too. Can't somebody please post what he wrote?

yeah, first post...

text, verbatim
Star Wars Insider Issue 76 “Q&A” wrote:I read online somewhere that Endor suffers an immense cataclysm after the destruction of the second Death star, and all the Ewoks are killed. Is this true?

Don't buy into anti-Ewok propaganda. It sounds like the Empire's behind that particular rumor.

Though many learned scholars and students of physics have micro-examined the Star Wars films for scientific accuracy and have come away with an entertaining degree of consistency, in some cases, science has to be thrown out the window. Armchair physicists have to look away when a screaming TIE fighter passes through the vacuum of space, when a particularly volatile explosion combusts in an airless void, or when giant yellow letters inexplicable to the known rules of the universe float lazily into infinity. Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's only a movie.

And it's a movie with a happy ending. Though there are undoubtedly any number of physical models that would indicate that the detonation of a moon-sized object in the upper atmosphere of a forest planetoid would wreck untold havoc on the local ecology, that’s not what happens. It was George Lucas’ intent that the fuzzy little Ewoks and their Rebel friends live happily ever after, and nuclear winters don’t fit into his model.

But there is a pseudorational explanation – from an unlikely source: In The Glove of Darth Vader, a children’s book published in the early 1990s, is a description of a wormhole that opened during the Death Star’s fiery demise and sucked debris – including Darth Vader’s indestructible glove (yeah, you read that correctly) – all the way across the galaxy to the planet Mon Calamari.

If we accept the hazy rules of hypermatter quasi-physics and plot-convenient wormholes, then surely suggesting the worst of the Death Star fallout also got sucked out into hyperspace isn’t too much of a stretch.

I like how Pablo's first paragraph plainly shows that he hasn't a fucking clue about cinematic diegetics, then flat out states that he's holding a huge grudge against technical analysis.

The rest of it is typical sniping and resentful countering, complete with attempting to discredit analysis by citing an absurd incident from the universally ignored Prophets of the Dark Side young reader book series.

Personally, I think it's shamefull that he used the Insider for such a self-centered purpose. Fuck him.

If he had SIMPLY said:

"It was George Lucas’ intent that the fuzzy little Ewoks and their Rebel friends live happily ever after, and nuclear winters don’t fit into his model. And as such it is Lucasfilms policy that this what happened. Does it violate the laws of physics? Quites possibly, but it would not be a first for Star Wars :)
-Pablo"

See thats ALL he had to say. Going on his rant was not helpful...

And citing a kiddy book to bolster his argument didn't help either.

I don't believe it. He actually cited the opening crawl as evidence against rational interpretation, as if the only rational way to interpret the text is as big floating yellow letter-shaped objects in space.

He's in charge of the Hyperspace section of the SW official site, I think, as stated on the first page. According to others, he also has some sort of position regarding the WotC RPG materials.

I just hope that Lucasfilm and the Insider get letters because of this. From what I know, he is in no position whatsoever to dictate and pass off his opinion as part of the rules.

The arrogant bastard clearly has delusions of grandure...

Though he also seriously lacks Sansweet's public relations and people skills.

Indeed. by that logic barely any films have realistic physics due to on-screen credits.

Considering he is [as far as I know] a relative newcomer to the 'upper' echelons of the SW franchise, he shows his supreme arrogance by mocking a fan base he has done nothing to help create.

GL should kick him up the arse. Then again, considering what GL thinks of us 'learned scholars' he'd probably congratulate him.

I've never known any brand that openly treats its customers with as much contempt as SW does. It seems that if we aren't dumb-fuckers who'll gladly sit through two hours of Jar-Jar and Anakin, we're not good fans. Fuck you!

[/end rant].

This is actually the SECOND time in the same column that he's addressed the Endor issue. The first time, (IIRC) he said "fairy tales don't need technical manuals"

Perhaps he should have floated this theory of a wormhole caused by the explosion a little earlier in the response, coupled with a concession that there is no on-screen evidence for it, instead of taking a big dump on people who know more about science than him and are taking Star Wars as seriously in their way as Lucas apparently does. Amazing that one is expected to suspend disbelief to accept the unbelievable, but not to accept what makes sense.
