Yeah, but that doen't come into play, cuz it's Staw Wars, where sometimes fighters can do nothing and sometimes they can blow away ISDs. Im out of touch w/reality anyway. 8)

Yes, but the TIE advanced looked cooler.
Well, TIE Advanced's pilot looked cooler, certainly.

The Tie Advanced was the name of the early models, the crews nicknamed it the Avenger.

But I could be wrong.

One question here: in the book "Isard's Revenge" Rogue Squadron flies Defenders equipped with tracton beams. Intersting addition, that. Have there been any other sightings of tractor-equipped Defenders?
If computer games count; one of TIE Defender missions in LucasArt's TIE Fighter (can't remember exactly which one). You must have Defender Of The Empire expansion pack to fly TIE Defender, though. BTW mine is collecter's edition CD, but can't get it run under Win 98 / 2000 / XP :(

all right these are the various tie models and their varients

T.I.E. The first model run not much data about them
Probably has 2 lasers

Tie/In Standard Tie model
2 laser canons
no shields, life support, or ejection seat

Tie Advanced X1 Darth Vader's Tie
2 laser cannons
sheilds, hyperdrive, larger engines, and one bad Sith pilot

Tie Interceptor
4 laser cannons
only the A-wing is faster, has no shields, or hyperdrive. based on Vader's Tie Fighter

Thrawn Tie Interceptor
4 laser cannons
Thrawn added sheilds to his interceptors. this was quite a surprize (surprize is spelled right if you live in Scotland!)

Tie Bomber
2 laser cannons
Bomb bay(can carry bombs, missiles, torpedoes, or heavy rockets)
slow, but can deliver heavy punishment. has no shields, lifesupport but includes ejection seat.

Tie Defender
4 laser cannons
2 Ion Cannons
2 missile tubes
Fast, deadly, and is the match of any rebel starfighter. has shields, hyperdrive, is still very manuverable

Tie Avenger
4 Laser Cannons
2 missile tubes
Limited run version of Vader's Tie. Has sheilds and hyperdrive but was discontinued in favor of the Tie Interceptor

Tie/Rc
no weapons
Recon model
only limited use since deploying one gives up a Tie slot on your vessel. a standard tie can perfom this unit's missions. the array on board is very long ranged though.

Tie/fc
no weapons
fire support model
only limited use since deploying one gives up a Tie slot on your vessel. a standard tie can perfom this unit's missions. the array on board is very long ranged though. this ship is designed to act as a spotter for turbolaser gunners

Tie/Gt
2 laser cannons
2 missile Tubes
the predisesser of the Tie Bomber. has slightly larger hull but is otherwise the same as a standard Tie/In

Tie Droid
2 Laser cannons
opperationally the same as a tie/In

I hate to inform you, but TIE Interceptors have 10 laser cannons. Two on the cockpit, one on the "wingtips", and two on each side in the opening that separates the front portion of the panels. I used to have the picture, but I lost it. I'll have to find it again.

by Darth Yoshi
We've already gone over that on a different thread. It's unrealistic to put 10 cannons on a TIE/I. There'd be problems with supplying power to the cannons.

Yes the wing-tips are LIGHTS not Lasers

There are hardpoints for 4 Lasers on the wings(Inside the cut-outs) and two hardpoints for them on the cockpit, they CAN go there but the standerd TIE/Interceptor uses it for extra engine space and more cooling(Weapons Cycle Faster)

From TEGTVAV:
"For weaponary, the interceptor has FOUR laser cannons, one at the end of each solar panel"

The Interceptor in X-Wing Vs Tie-Fighter has FOUR lasers.

In all the novels I have read that state how many lasers an Interceptor has, they have FOUR lasers.

In RoTJ when we see them firing they are firing FOUR lasers.

I hate to inform you but your stupid ass statement has been shown to be false numerous times.
