Been a long time since I read the NJO, but wasn't the idea that the Vong were connected to the Force in a different way from every other known species? Jacen certainly seems to have found a way around the issue.

If I remember right, both Jacen and Anakin Solo could sense the Vong. Jacen through some funky animal thing (I think) and Anakin through his lightsaber crystal.

Granted, it has been years since I read the NJO so I could be wrong on something there.
