I'm just worried about what my service provider will do when they catch the smell of that child porn. Anyone have any advice? I've never been trolled quite this... illegally before.

Oh, it should probably be noted that: one of the big things about these guys is to rile us up. If we don't pay any special attention to them, it loses the fun for them.

So were the ones that posted banned or everyone joined within the last couple of hours?

As far as I'm concerned, they should be turned into law enforcement. I hope that, if possible, this is the course the mods are following.

I guess the time I spent running around some tank trails after work (I had to beat the fading daylight ) was time well-spent outdoors and not at SDN.

FYI, I checked a few of those posts (as directed in this thread) by the Internat'l Insurgency (what they call themselves) and at least one guy posited "Sunday" as a better day for an invasion, since more idiots will be online at that time. Obviously they went ahead anyway yesterday on Thursday but we're not necessarily in the clear.

Romulan Republic: calm down. We all know the technicalities of it, etc. By continuing to be all spun up, you are making drama. Drama is what they want-- this is the high-tech version of putting firecrackers in antpiles to watch the panic and scurry afterwards, 'cause it's cheap fun for the unimaginative.

So the more someone gnashes teeth and rends clothing, the more they'll keep coming back to watch the old ladies getting all a-twitter.

That said, the vast majority of the population did exactly the right thing, and I'd like to extend my thanks to the population-- for the most part, you contained your outrage, reported the posts, and let the mods rush in to serve as fire brigades when and where needed. Considering how long it's been since we had a troll invasion, I'd say the board did quite well.

regarding the potential child porn posting, we DO report that to law enforcement right?

It's a good sign that this thread is two pages, rather than twelve. The mods are doing a good job and people aren't getting butthurt about this, which is just how you combat chantards looking for lulz.

I'm also thankful for the moderators and administrators, but as others have said here, the board population itself has been of help. No actual panic, no sudden dog-piling on troll threads etc. which would have probably prolonged the situation, or at least its after-effects.

About reporting the incident to authorities: I'm quite sure that the board leadership did that, even without the general outcry from the population. They do have working brains, after all, and even if the legal ramifications wouldn't be the reason, remember that site owner has kids. Let that sink in for a moment. That alone would make him extremely ready to take action against those who spread these vile things.

May grateful thanks to all moderators, administrators and to the population at large.

The "report post" button was a huge help in this incident. You guys can thank the staff, but the staff also owes you guys a thanks for being quick on the reports and, with a few exceptions, staying calm and being helpful and not feeding the trolls.

PS. Mr. Coffee, is there some particular reason why you insist on playing the drama queen in all matters related to the board administration?

I only visit this site a couple times a day (on average) for maybe 10-15 minutes each time, so maybe I've missed the worst of this "invasion," but I have to say, this is pretty pathetic. Other than a couple of threads in HoS and the drama here, I wouldn't know that this site had been trashed. Can't say I'm impressed; I would have thought bald, overweight virgins with WAAAAY too much time on their hands could do a better job trashing a forum. Great job by the admin/mod staff.

It was pretty pathetic as far as invasion standards go. They didn't even push any of the existing threads off the first page of any forum.
