Hey that's interesting, you guys have dedicated medical undergraduate programs?
Over here it happens like this: many people do life sciences for a B.Sc. and many many wash out and only the top guys make it, top usually meaning best marks and best references.
It's such a cuthroat thing... premed wannabes they call it here, guys who take the easiest courses for a B.Sc. major in biology, who don't care what the fuck they take as long as they get an A.
The British way of education has always been superior in my mind.

I hold Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and a Bachelor of Arts in German. Prolly won't go back to school, though--I enjoy making a decent living too much to abandon it.

The Pre-Meds and Pre-Pharm majors did it something like that at my Uni. The 3.5+ gpas of those majors would get pissed off when the 2.4-2.8 gpa Chem Engineering majors would get accepted and they'd be left in the dust.

I'm going to come out and admit that I have no qualifications whatsoever on account of not even turning up for my GCSE exams. This was entirely my fault, as I did not give a shit about school at the time. It was idiotic of me for sure, but I am now working on it. In fact, I have an exam tomorrow for a Sage course I'm taking.

Brian, we have both undergraduate and post graduate programs for medicine. Generally post graduate programs was more prevalent in the Eastern states of Australia who have a larger population, and hence would require more graduates.
Currently the world seems to be experiencing a doctor shortage, including over here, and in Western Australia the University of WA have recently added a post graduate program for medicine and another university, er, a private Catholic university of some international renown who teaches their students Pascals Wager as a valid argument, and which I will not name has also set up a medical post graduate program. Their students are set to graduate in 2009, and it will be interesting to see how well they cope (I won't go into the rumours I have heard about their training).
I wouldn't sell your education standards short. As a medical student I had to do an elective. Most people chose that as an opportunity to go overseas and see another country. Guess which hospital I ended up at -
Western Toronto hospital. Since you guys have a post graduate training program, I was younger than the Canadians who were with me. Being more mature I guess gave them some advantage, having gone through a degree prior. Everyone of them were using PDAs while I was a primitive Aussie guy using pen and paper.

Let me tell you, they were smart.
Funny thing, is I would have graduated before they did, and consequently worked as a doctor longer than they have. I think you actually learn much more on the job and reading around medical problems you haven't seen before than actual medical school, but thats just me. Or maybe UWA's "problem based learning" approach (re : cost saving approach) just sucked.

Hey, I hear they have some really interesting stuff in their library!
In my case, I have a B.Sc in physics. I can scan the diploma, if anyone really cares enough.
