Armed Forces in 1967 told Nasser that it was not Israeli aircraft that

The topic is about particular PR disaster, not those. You are trying to change the subject away from that. I bet you figure that if you get people to talk about those, they won't talk about the topic at hand, and thus you won't have to admit that Israel really fucked up here.MKSheppard wrote:The topic is about Israel, and someone mentioned PR disaster, and nothings
bigger than the PR disaster the Arabs faced in 1967.

Baruch Goldstein was a Brooklyn-born Jewish Fundamentalist living in Israel. He killed some 29 Muslims at Sabbath prayer on Friday, February 25, 1994, in the Cave of the Patriarchs, a Hebron site holy both to Muslims and Jews. By profession a physician, he lived as a settler in Kiryat Arba. For years prior to the massacre, Goldstein had served as a physician in the Israeli army, first as a conscript, then in the reserve forces. After being initially subdued with a fire extinguisher, Goldstein was beaten to death by survivors.
Rioting immediately following the massacre caused the deaths of another 26 Palestinians and 2 Israelis.
Trial investigation testimony raised the possibility Goldstein had an accomplice - two Israeli army guards testified that a second settler entered Hebron's Tomb of the Patriarchs on February 25 shortly after gunman Goldstein, and that when Goldstein went into the tomb he was armed with a different gun from the Galil assault rifle found by his body. The second settler was carrying a Galil, they said. This testimony was never confirmed.
Goldstein's actions were immediately condemned by the Israeli government, and the Israeli populace in general. Spokespeople in all of the organized denominations of Judaism denounced his act as immoral and as terrorism.
He has become a hero among some of Israel's right-wing extremists. Some extremists set up a tombstone for him which read "To the saint Baruch Goldstein... who gave his life for the Jewish people, its Torah and his country; of clean hands and a pure heart". Members of the banned Kach organization, to which he belonged, glorify his mass murder. Most Israelis were repulsed by this action, and Israelis lobbied their representatives to take some action against this glorification of his actions. In 1998, a bill was passed in the Israeli Knesset that forbade the erection of monuments to terrorists; in 2000 a small shrine built around Goldstein's tomb was demolished; at the time it was also declared that a discussion of the wording above was pending.

Israel army to demolish shrine to killer
By Ross Dunn, Jerusalem
Israel's army is preparing to demolish a shrine erected around the grave of a Jewish settler, Baruch Goldstein, who massacred 29 Muslim worshippers in Hebron in 1994.
Security forces fear the site has become an inspiration for other Jewish extremists plotting violence against Palestinians.
Israel's Supreme Court has upheld a decision by the army to demolish the shrine at the tomb of Goldstein, who gunned down unsuspecting Muslims at prayer in the mosque at the Tomb of the Patriarchs.
Goldstein, who was bludgeoned to death by a Palestinian mob after the murders, is buried in the Jewish settlement known as Kiryat Arba, which overlooks Hebron. Supporters of the New York-born Goldstein transformed a plaza around his grave into a memorial, with cases for prayer books and candles.
Justice Michel Cheshin, in the Supreme Court, rejected a pleas by Goldstein's parents, that dismantling the site would insult the memory of their son.
"We should remember, and we shall remember, the dignity of the 29 people whose lives were taken by Goldstein," Justice Cheshin said.
"Do we honour their memories by building a fancy monument to the person who took their lives?"
Justice Cheshin presided over a panel of judges who declared that the site had become a venue of pilgrimage, and, in essence, encourage people to praise murderers.
The court's decision comes more than a year after the Israeli parliament passed a law preventing the establishment of monuments at the graves of terrorists.
Israel's Trade Minister, Mr Ran Cohen, who sponsored the bill, praised the ruling. "The decision removes a stain from Israeli society," he said. "It is a necessary decision, even if it is a difficult one."
But the lawyer representing Goldstein's parents, Mr Naftali Wertzberger, said the decision would not stop supporters visiting the grave.
A spokesman for the Jewish community is Hebron, Mr Noam Arnon, said the ruling would only encourage more people to gather at the site.
