Yeah, the FASA game even invented names and statistics for the species spotted in quick scenes in ST IV. I had the fourth movie sourcebook.
Some of the ship information really jars today... for example, IIRC it was the Reliant class, not the Miranda, and upgrade Connies were 'Enterprise' class.
(And seriously kicked ass. God, FP-4 photon torpedos rocked the world.)
