So he's going to eliminate all of the conflicts and mysteries that have driven Star Trek up to this point and produce some extragalactic threat in order to keep it exciting? Great- looks like he read those stupid Yuzan Vong books. Either that or he wants to turn it into Andromeda. Maybe he can get that Hercules guy to play the Captain.

I don't particularly mind an extra galactic threat but I would prefer it to show up and not face a united homogenous galaxy, I would also want the threat to be real yet overcome through actual Federation intelligence and fighting prowess (not to mention a great deal of blood) not remodulating gadget X to defeat the enemy when they are on the verge of complete victory.Darth Wong wrote:So he's going to eliminate all of the conflicts and mysteries that have driven Star Trek up to this point and produce some extragalactic threat in order to keep it exciting?
Andromeda was rather good for the first couple of seasons until it took a nose dive straight into the ninth circle of hell.Either that or he wants to turn it into Andromeda. Maybe he can get that Hercules guy to play the Captain.

While the concept sounds nice, I just see it sliding down into a abortion.
The 'unified' galaxy will quickly mirror the PC commies of the fed, and the new itergrated 'starfleet' will quickly become a ship full of humans with token alien characters who are cardboard cut outs of the stereotypes of their species.
They'll give in to fan boy wankery and give their ships 'slipstream' that will be 'x' fast this week and 'z' fast next week and all the usual bells and whistles like the uber multitool we call the nav deflector.
I just don't see anything made by the current crew (no matter what level of involvment) being any good.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Oh dear god, no. The premise I don't mind, there is promise there, but Trek needs a rest for a while - give it a few years, then maybe, but not now...

Wait...
Galaxy unites
Extra-Galactic threat
Faster transportation for ships
Is it just me, or could they be trying to have a Star Wars like entity come blasting into the ST galaxy?
::hoping it's the species from TOS that could turn people into foam::

It would appear that they're working on the premise that bigger explosions = superior quality of science fiction.Straha wrote:Is it just me, or could they be trying to have a Star Wars like entity come blasting into the ST galaxy?

Personally, I'd like to see a StarTrek series that leaves the Federation for a while and does stuff with other groups. I wouldn't mind seeing a series based in the Klingon Empire after the Dominion War. Of course, that has the distinct possibility of being really terrible and I don't trust the clowns at Paramount to do it right, but exploring the Klingon Empire and making them more than Vikings in Space would be interesting.

My God, this would be the biggest fuck-up. Allow me to express the B2B Law:
P ^ (B2B * F) = S
P = The potential of a new series to be really good
B2B = the presence of these two idiots
F = The fuck-up constant (3532.3321271837653871)
S = The suck factor of anything these two morons touch
As you can see, according to the above formula, the greater potential a new series has, the more they'll fuck it up, and the more it will suck. Voyager was bad, Enterprise is worse, but this new series could be the worst of all.
EDIT: Checked my calculations and made corrections to the forrmula.

You can't argue the math.
It pisses me off to read this. I'm an old-sk00l Trek fan from back in the day, and the concept has so much potential....but it's being raped by uncreative asshats.
The future Trek world could be a masterpiece if done properly.....so I think we all know what that means. Suckfest.

I just hope they realize that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Give Star Trek a fucking rest for a while; the public is sick of it.Dark Primus wrote:I have heard on SB that article is fake. Good news.
I just hope when a new Trek series comes, B&B wont be allow to step within a hundred miles radius from the studio.

Nah in my opinion. That was part of the reason that I dreaded Worf coming onto DS9; we'd already seen enough of Klingons during TNG and there's only so much that can be done with the Klingons story-wise.Gil Hamilton wrote:Personally, I'd like to see a StarTrek series that leaves the Federation for a while and does stuff with other groups. In some ways, I hope it's fake...
Though it'd probably be better than Enterprise.
If it's true...makes me wonder just how much of the galaxy will be united.
Will the Borg be good guys? Will they have been eradicated by Voyager's virus? Will the changelings have decided to be nice guys (yeah, right), or will someone have eradicated their homeworld (again), eradicating them, so the galaxy can be united without them in the way?
When they say the Enterprise will be fast...will they have Warp drive past warp 10 (oh please no...there goes the warp scale out the window again)? Or will they have SlipStream from Voyager? Or Transwarp stolen from the Borg?

At least we'll be back to kickass tech; that's always been one of my greatest problems with ENT's premise (other than the design of NX; * cough * Akira * cough): The further back in time you go the more limited your technology becomes, and hence the more limited your scope for storytelling becomes.Praxis wrote:In some ways, I hope it's fake...

The problem with the Klingons in TNG and DS9 is that they were made into cartoons of themselves. It was all "Warrior" this and "Good Day To Die" that. However, in my opinion, the Klingons could be made into something very interesting if put in the right hands. For instance, Klingons must have accountants, right? It's not like an industrial starfaring society could be all warriors. What would a Klingon accounts life be like? In a culture were everyone is supposed to be a warrior, would they be on the bottom rungs of society? Would they be slave-accountants, bought and sold by the Houses to manage the resources of the Warrior families? Are they recognized as valuable or are they sneered at because their profession doesn't involve dying gloriously for House and Empire? I suppose I'm a bit like Philip K. Dick in that I want to explore the life of the little guy for whom great events are happening all around him.JME2 wrote:Nah in my opinion. While this may be true, in that the technology of the setting will limit the storytelling opportunities, I don't think it's as serious a flaw in ENT's premise. I was looking forward to examining the origins of Starfleet and the Federation, I was looking forward to E/R war, and a coalition being formed between the Humans and Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites etc against the Romulan conquerors. ENT had a good time period in which to examine all these things, and none of it had to do with technology limiting the scope and scale.JME2 wrote:At least we'll be back to kickass tech; that's always been one of my greatest problems with ENT's premise (other than the design of NX; * cough * Akira * cough): The further back in time you go the more limited your technology becomes, and hence the more limited your scope for storytelling becomes.

I was too. And instead, like Voyager, B/B have turned and interesting and good premise into a disaster.Stofsk wrote:While this may be true, in that the technology of the setting will limit the storytelling opportunities, I don't think it's as serious a flaw in ENT's premise.
