Think a couple episodes aboard a Romulan vessel with Romulan characters and perhaps not actually being the bad guys! *gasp* Just my 2 pence.
That's always been my primary gripe with all 5 series; it's all been from the Federation's point of view. Indeed, why does it need to be a Starfleet crew?

There is no other good major races for a new show. The Klingons are yelling morons, the Romulans have bad uniforms, the Cardassians are cool but they have been utterly defeated, the Dominion is cool but they are ruled by evil clone masters.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Because Star Trek is about the People Of The Future.

I just thought an amazing new series for StarTrek,

It takes place 25 years after Janeway returned to Earth. A stable wormhole has been discovered, and the federation sends ships through to discover where it leads. It leads to another galaxy,

So this series would go back to the 'discovery' but they aren't completely isolated like voyager, so you still have other federation ships and things like that. The ship (insert name here) would be a monster, not small slim and fast like voyager, but large and bulky.

The bridge would be very large and there would be a different theme. The captain would distance himself more from the crew, and would go back to more of a TOS feel. However because they are in a new galaxy, you can introduce new species, aswell as tie in old species like the romulans trying to push themselves into the new galaxy.

I think it would make for a lot of new stories,

I think they need a captain and bridge crew that we could truely fall in love with.

They woudln't have science OFFICERS, they'd have science teams, and navigational teams, the ship would be vast,

And a captain in his fifties with a shade of grey, but a rough complextion, with an all male bridge crew, some women in the sciences though.

And your engineer would have to be a non human, a new species that is so rediculously intelligent. And not just a human with bumps on his head either, something original.

what do you guys think of that?

To gay it up a bit.

Either that or to have gender equality fall back about forty years...

lets look at what the female bridge crew has give us as an audience

Dr. Polaski (sp?)
complete moron, who liked watching her

Councellor troi
good character, but on the bridge? "captain I sense hostility" no fucking shit !

Dax
she was ok, but imagine a entire department for her? with staff under her?

Kira
pretty good, but she was JUST as good on away missions

Ohura
was the only good female, who didn't say anything stupid, didn't state everything obvious and just did her job

So ok, if we were to have a female bridge crew, it would have to be someone who isn't like Dr polaski or Councellor Troi

As for why mostly men?

Lets think about our favourite characters, who were men

Kirk
Spock
Data
Worf
Riker
Picard
Ben
Tom Paris

there are a lot

Seven of Nine is great, but she belongs in a science lab with the kind of Dax, the crew on this new series would have sections like that,

much better for a story, u could have sub plots in EACH section,
not just the bridge crew

Isn't it just shitty writing then? As opposed to some inferiority on the part of females?

So basically the crew should be all men because the writers have largely been hacks and write female characters primarily for T&A? The character's appeal has less to do with what's between their legs and more in what was written for them.

What the hell? She was certainly a lot better than Crusher.

BTW, Dr. Pulaski wasn't so bad. The ship needed a more crusty, alcoholic pill-roller as CMO. Better than Crusher.

Why not get better writers instead ? A Star Trek show would not be complete without female cast members.

I'd like to see more senior staff officers of different species. Let's see a Bolian first officer, a Deltan science chief, a Caitian Tactical officer, things we haven't sene before that can open up charcater exposition.

So you'll be a sexist assclown simply to keep hack writers on the payroll? Heaven forbid we hire decent writers instead. You know the ones that can write.

That is a good idea. In all the Trek shows the non human crew members like Spock and Worf stood out from the rest with their brilliant performences.

I don't think we will ever see a mostly alien crew, because I read several times, that ~80% of all people in Starfleet are humans......

Don't think that's accurate- what reason is there for humans to go into Starfleet whereas not non-humans? Well, even if it is primarily human, no reason we ca't get a mostly alien senior staff. Some of the Trek Sims I'm in have a brilliantly diverse cast, no reason that can't be done on a show.

Actually, there is. Alien costumes, especially the more geunuinly alien, take up a lot more time and money. You realize that actors often have to spend four or fiver hours getting into the more elaborate costumes? That makes for time and money.

Plus there is the concern of them being able to turn in a decent performance. Any actor that's worked with extensive facial prosthetics can tell you, it's damn hard to act under there. They have great difficulty achieving the nuances of expression that can make a performance.

One reason that even in show like B5 or Farscape most aliens have a more or less human face.

It's no much them looking physically wild, its the having something different and unique. A Deltan can be made in about half an hour with a nose and forehead prosthesis, a Bolian takes significantly longer, but isn't on the level of Jem'Hadar. We see Bolians fairly often in VGR, and could be done (compare getting a fat actor and painting him blue to putting on Worf's head and hair). A Caitian would take probably the same amount of time as an actress on the set of CATS, but again, could be done. Other species that don't take much makeup include full Betazoids, Vulcans, and humans of different ethnic origins (Hispanic, Indian)- there are lots of different character types that can be done cheaply.

One barrier to too many aliens is that when there are aliens on a show, the human actors have to give a more bland performance, so as to not detract from the alienness of the others.
