I always considered the Jem'Hadar beetles to be a patrol ship, ideally suited to taking care of piracy or unruly subject races, but not good enough to protect against capital ships.

Which leads me to a question: did the Odyssey destroy 2 out of the 3 Jem'Hadar beetles (which would make sense if the third and final beetle made a kamikaze run against it) in the episode "The Jem'Hadar"? We don't actually see them destroyed, but if they weren't then the runabouts would've been easy pickings for the 2 survivors - Sisko and co would've been captured.
It's been forever since I saw that episode, but I think all of the bugs survived except the kamikaze. And the others let the Runabouts go so their retelling of events could spread fear through the Federation. I do remember Jadzia saying in awe that the Odyssey was retreating when it was destroyed.

I would agree the Borg don't seem to have made contact with the Dominion that we're aware of, but the Borg would most certainly have the ability to counter the Dominion. Easily.

What makes you say this? The Dominion could be vastly superior in fleet than the Borg. From what we have seen of the borg they are tactically inept (yay Voyager :() and can be beaten by sheer force, the Dominion more than likely is quite capable of delivering that sheer force. Just look at the size of the fleet they managed to put together in the Alpha Quadrant using the Cardassian industry, who knows what they can manage on a full war footing with their Gamma quadrant empire.

The Dominion obviously is not vastly superior to the Dominion. A single Cube would decimate fleets of Dominion ships and if enough cubes were destroyed, the Borg can send in fleets of them.

Some Torps in Valiant is all I can remember but isn't it stated as being 3x as powerful than the Galaxy? (Most likely they mean the Dom War Refit too)

That was the prototype battleship. I have heard that there were much larger versions, called Dreadnaughts by Star Trek fans, at Cardassia Prime when the FKR Alliance attacked, but the Dominion surrendered before the Dreadnaughts were engaged by the allies. I do remember hearing that the Alliance was expecting to take very heavy casualties, at least 30% and I'm probably vastly underestimating the casualty numbers here, when they were going to attack Cardassia itself after they had gotten through the outer defenses.

There is only one size Dominion Dreadnaught, 1.2km long. The 5km version was a VFX error.

Umm it seems relavent as this is talking about the Size/Power/Influence of the Dominion. Comparing to other nations seems reasonable.

I think they are called battlecruisers. Their combat strength is unknown but I think they can beat a GCS in one on one combat.

so then we are to not count size variations on screen as new classes?

Isn't it basicly:
Beatle
Battlecruiser (first bigger than beatle ship you see of Dominion)
Battleship (from Valiant and seen at the defense of Cardassia)

We it wasn't until the Federation got the Defiant (and even in the first battles with the Defiant.) A wing of Jem-Hadar attack ships was considered beatable. Three attack ships could take down a GCS. The Defiant could destroy a Jem Hadar ship, but the Defiant's armor wasn't strong enough to withstand a Jem Hadar assault.

I guess the Federation and Klingons were able to adapt, espescailly considering that in the war, a bird of prey could take down an attack ship with a single shot!

I consider it more of the writer's sudden realization that they built the Dominion up to be so dmaned powerful that the war arc would be much harder to write and traditionally what have Trek writers done with faced with writing a diffiuclt scenario - that's right they dumb down the opponent much like the did with the Borg and the Ferengi (who in Encounter at Farpoint the Federation feared above the Klingons UGH)

Actually I think it was something like this.

Beatle
Battlecruiser (first seen in "Purgatory's Shadow" I don't think this was seen to often after that)
Battleship (First seen when Gul Dukat came to DS9 in the episode with Ghemor. Worf referred to it as a "Jem Hadar battleship." Later seen in call to arms and battle scenes during the war.)
"Super Battleship" (Called battleship, seen in Valiant.)

Watch the episode, when Picard is talking to the head guy of Far Point station he threatens to call the Ferengi and Picard suddenly gets all nervous and says something to the effect that they're the Federation's greatest enemy. (at the time when Roddenberry intended them to be the TNG's Klingons.)

Ferengi Marauders were also considered to be very sophisticated ships, some of which were capable of disabling a Galaxy class starship in one shot, according to my Star Trek encyclopedia. They're definately not total pushovers.

There have only ever been three Dominion ships shown. The small attackship, the Heavy Cruiser (which is the same as the one Dukat used to come to DS9), and the battleship.

There have been SOME scaling errors on the Heavy Cruiser and Battleship, but the intent is clear and so is their size.
