For one of the more off series, I'll tack on the Vampires of Nosgoth from the Legecy of Kain. It should be noted that I haven't played very much of the series, and can only comment on the first Soul Reaver... just a slight warning.
Powers: Varies. Vampires take on weakened abilities of those that create them. Example: Rahab, one of Kain's leiutenants, became strong against water, but extremely weak against the sun. As such, his spawn were very agile under water, but were easily killed by sun light.
Other powers: Some vampires could use a sort of telekinetic push at long range. Others could climb walls and jump extreme distances. Some have the ability to burrow underground. All have hightened strength and some have heightened agility.
Weakness: Most are weak against water, sunlight, and fire. As was said earlier, Rahab's brood had become strong against water, and as such lived in it. High pitched/volume sound stuns weaker vampires.
Weaker vampires can be impaled with any instrument avalable. If the instrument is removed, the vampire can and will get up, even if dead for protracted periods of time. The only way to kill a vampire dead is through emersion in water, exposure to sun light or fire, although after killing a vampire, taking it's soul causes it to collapse into dust.

A note on Nosgoth Vampires
If I remember correctly, and I should send my friend here, the Nosgoth vamps eventually out grow the weakness to sunlight. Also, (spoilers to those who haven't played the second one) Vampires were once angels and defended reality from the Hilden, IIRC, who are extradimensional demons. Vampires utilize a magic different from Rune Magic, which is powered by extra dimensional energy. Ny friend knows more on this subject so certain parts may be off..

Anyone know how the LoK vampires are "made"? I know that Kain was made into a vampire by a necromancer, and that Janos Audron's heart can also be used to create a vampire, but neither of those seemed to be the "typical" fashion in which vampires re-produced. It can't all have been done using the Heart of Darkness, since (SR2 spoilers) Janos himself remarked on how vampires were no longer "born" back when his heart was still securely planted in his chest, and they can't all be the work of necromancers, either.
I've played both Soul Reaver games, and the first bit of Blood Omen (up to Nupraptor's Retreat) but I've never finished Blood Omen and I've never played Blood Omen 2 at all. Do either of these games shed any light on this matter?

Only the very powerful, and only some of them. Rahab, if you remember, was killed when exposed to sunlight.Tasoth wrote:A note on Nosgoth Vampires

Spoiler:
Only Kain's Leiuteneants were originally seripham (REad: The bosses (minus Kain) and Raziel, although we missed Zephon...)
I need to go out and buy the rest of the series...

The SR manual says that all vampires are made by ritual. The blood has nothing to do with it. There essentaily human spirits forced back into thier bodies.Drooling Iguana wrote:Anyone know how the LoK vampires are "made"? Kain, on the other hand, was able to venture out in direct sunlight pretty much immediately after being turned without taking damage, although he was weakened a bit. Rain, on the other hand, was a problem until he made it to the second blood fountain.Singular Quartet wrote:Only the very powerful, and only some of them. The Vampires Of Ultraviolet
Origins: Typically, these vampiric beings originated from genetic offspring of humanity, they could be considered a superior Homo sapiens in many ways. These vampires are not fantasy based.
Notable Features: They are said, as with folklore, to have the strength of twenty men or at least superior strength to humans. They are able to evade electronic surveillance given no artificial recording medium be it CCTV or telephone taps can pick up their image or voice. They also look human though prominent canines help with the feeding process.
Known as "Code Vs" (read as Code Five), these "parasites" are allergic to the active ingredient of garlic, allicin, which is refined and used in CS sprays and tear gas grenades by CIB, the gov't institute that is charged with eradicating and researching Code Vs.
Code Vs are also susceptible to strong light, so walking in daylight can and will burn or even kill them.
Methods Of Detection & Killing: CIB employs police officers or members of CID (Criminal Investigation Dept.) for tracking down Code Vs and engineering means of neutralising the threat. Dr. Angela 'Angie' March was the one responsible for finding cures to the disease that is basically what distinguishes a Code V from a human. The way to find out if a person has been bitten is to use a UV lamp over the suspect's body. Usually, a victim will have been bitten around the neck near the jugular vein or throat and this will show as small marks in only UV light.
Crosses and holy water have no real effect and is considered merely myth found in common vampire stories or fictionalised accounts. The allicin grenades do slow down the Code Vs and can cause them to start coughing violently, but the chief method of neutralising the threat is via carbon-based bullets. CIB agents and clean-up squads which operate much like the British armed police unit SO19, use firearms that replace the lead or other metal bullets with what is essentially charcoal. This means a hit is only really effective at close range, though the bullet can and will kill normal humans still. Only a round to the heart of a Code V will take it down with the target combusting in a quick deflagration of the flesh resulting in a pile of rust/black coloured ash being left behind. Carbon piercing rods can also be used as a melee weapon. The standard issue firearm of CIB agents is the H&K SOCOM with modifications for a small camera and folding screen. Given a Code V won't appear on CCTV, any target that does not show on the camera's screen is a probable target.
UV light, as ever, detains Code Vs and can "kill" them if strong enough.
Additional Notes: The CIB department has identified several times that Code Vs are getting more popular and have no interest in simply killing humans as doing so would deprive them of their primary food source. They have, however, got major projects in cancer research and other diseases, which would cause harm to humanity.
There are rumours they have also been researching artificial blood in labs around the globe, but this is sketchy information and CIB believes it to be a dead end.
CIB can't actually keep Code Vs dead, despite them losing physical form and becoming ash, they can, if the remnants make contact with blood, reform. The answer to this is to make a prison and this prison based in the CIB HQ consists of a room full of chambers that hold metal flasks filled with the ashes contained in ultraviolet-lit compartments.
No one is "turned" to become a Code V unless they accept to become one. This is the general protocol, though certain rogue Code Vs do ignore these more noble rules and act by themselves.

Vampires of the novel ‘Dracula’
Strengths:
The physical strength of twenty men
The ability to appear and disappear at will (possibly attributed increased speed?)
The ability to physically grow and thin in size (Lucy is able to fit through the crack between the door and doorjam)
The ability to take the physical form of a wolf, bat, mist, or ‘elemental dust’ (dust may possibly be a mistaken form of thin mist?)
The ability to control canines, rats, owls, bats, insects.
The ability to create and control fog, storms, and thunder (lightning assumed with the reference to thunder)
The ability to speak with and control the dead
The ability to see in the dark
The ability to place victims in a trance state
Will not die because of the passage of time
Weaknesses:
May not enter a home unless invited (after the first invitation they can come and go as they please)
Do not cast reflections
Do not cast shadows
Can only pass running water at high and low tide
Aversion to garlic
Aversion to sacred symbols and artifacts
A branch of wild rose placed on the coffin will confine the vampire
Loses all powers during the day accept at dawn, noon, sunset of with in its resting place
Must drink blood and does not eat or drink anything else
Appear as a corpse in their coffin (Lucy was noted to be an exception to this)
Method of transfer:
“... all that die from the preying of the Undead become themselves Undead, and prey on their kind. And so the circle goes on ever widening, like as the ripples from a stone thrown in the water.”
Death:
Stake or sanctified bullet through the heart, cutting off the head and stuffing the mouth with garlic. Reference to burning the heart after decapitation is also made.
Notes:
“Even more, we have seen amongst us that he can even grow younger; that his vital faculties grow strenuous, and seem as though they refresh themselves when his special pabulum is plenty” The movie version seemed to infer that Dracula could become old or young at will but this line seems to me to say that the vampire will appear youthful when supplied with blood and grow physically older and older when starved of blood, though they will not die.
Dracula could move around under the sun and it is said that only the vampire’s powers are lost during the day, but this seems to be contradicted by the account of Lucy. She returned to her coffin every night before dawn and Van Helsing even says, “Yesterday I came here before sundown, for at sundown the Undead can move.” This would seem to mean that she would be in the coffin before dark and he would be safe from her attacking him.
We learn from Van Helsing, “The Draculas were, says Arminius (Van Helsing’s friend from the University of Buda-Pesth),a great and noble race, though now and again were scions who were held by their coevals to have had dealings with the Evil One. They learned his secrets in the Scholomance, amongst the mountains over Lake Hermanstadt, where the devil claims the tenth scholar as his due. In the records are such words as ‘stregoica’ - witch, ‘ordog’, and ‘pokol’ - Satan and hell; and in one manuscript this very Dracula is spoken of as ‘wampyr’ which we all understand too well. There have been from the loins of this very one great men and women, and their graves make sacred the earth where alone his foulness can dwell. For it is not the least of its terrors that this evil thing is rooted deep in all good; in soil barren of holy memories it cannot rest.” - From the first part we learn that Dracula is not only a vampire but a sorcerer was well. It could be that the powers that seem to be unique only to him are because of this. From the second part, it would seem that his need to sleep in the soil he brings to London is from this sorcery and his past and may not be general to all vampires. He must sleep in sacred earth, not necessarily the earth of his homeland. Note that he was able to sleep in the grave of a suicide death without his transported earth., though that earth was described as ‘un-hallowed’ and may contradict the ‘sacred’ statement.

Vampires of the Anita Blake Series
Weaknesses:
Holy Symbols, but only when wielded by someone that believes, in such cases it burns with a white light and can drive off or burn a vampire on contact. One of the novels mentions an athiest trying to fend a vampire off with a cross as being a pitiful sight.
Silver.
Holy Water acts in a similar fashion to acid on them.
Powers:
The powers depend on the age and particular bloodline of a vampire.
All vampires have basic capabilities for controlling someones mind with direct eye contact. Older vampires can have much more potent variations on this.
Powerful vampires of the line of "Belle Morte" can gain strength not just from blood, but sex and eroticisim. Those of another bloodline can feed from fear.
Most master vampires have the capability to control a particular animal, including the were-creature variant there of, extremely old and powerful vampires can control several types of creatures.
A human can be marked as a master vampires servant, there are four marks involved in this process. The first makes the servant immune to the mind control of the vampire that marked them and highly resistant to such powers of others. In addition this mark grants mild resistance to injury and improved healing. The second mark allows the master to draw sustenance through thier servant, gaining strength when they eat. In addition they can experience the taste of what the servant eats. The third mark can allow a transference of power, and much more potent regenerative abilities compared to the other marks. The fourth and final mark grants immortality, the human servant will not age so long as the vampire lives.
This comes with a price though, the bond between the master and servant means the shock of the vampire dying will almost certainly kill the servant, and the death of the servant will likely incapacitate or possibly even kill the master.
There's more, but I'll add it later.
