Beck's failures are more a matter of hardware than tactics. Big Fau was built with pre-Event parts and the full resources of the Paradigm Corporation, but Beck is just scrabbling by on whatever a professional criminal can scrape together. It shows in his results.

His rebuilt Dorothy II was passable, though obviously crippled by the GIANT FUCKING HOLE.

The second Megadeuce was a little above that, but I can't remember specifics. I know it was more or less homemade, so Pre-Fall Big O was more or less a shoe-in.

The combiner was a joke.

Beck, behind a true, full power Big, could be a serious danger. Yet, we will see.

That second megadeus was called the Beck Victory Deluxe, I believe. If I recall, it was completely unable to damage Big O, and so weak that the harpoon point on one of Roger's hip-chains was able to penetrate it's chest.

Those harpoons aren't exactly weak, though. They plowed through the attacking Deuces in Roger The Wanderer.

Very minor spoiler: Those harpoons won't pierce Big Duo's armor at all. Thus another refernce point for the difference in quality between pre and post-Event megadeuses.

How can Dorothy be saved? Are the memories people have -- Angel's Mother, Datsun's movie -- all implants? And what of the Union Forces? They're overhead, three triangles of planes or MegaDeuces... could Roger's memories of a destroyed world be foresight of what's coming?

No.. this last episode has to be a full hour to answer all the questions.
