Sharp-Kun has posted an image - and I find it to be interestingly similar to the stereotypical "Grey"-type aliens found in post-TOS sci-fi, alien abduction stories and conspiracy theories.Raoul Duke, Jr. wrote:Big grey head, nasty scowl, green cat-eyes. In fact - next time I post an updated version of my list of alien archetypes, I might include a "Evolution of the Grey Alien"... from the early sidhe of Celtic folklore over the aliens who abducted Betty and Barney Hill to the Kaminoans.

I remember, in 6th or 7th grade, finding out that my tiny local library could get 35mm films. There was one episode of StarTrek that I could never catch in reruns, which was "Trouble with Tribbles". Miracle of Miracles, in this age before VHS or Beta, the library got hold of a copy, and my Dad set up the projector. My lil brother, my dad, and I all sat in my grandma's kitchen, watching this one TOS episode on the wall.Gandalf wrote:I remember, soon after I got interested in Trek, I found a local video store that carried tons of videos, I remember going down every week to check out what I could get, since the 6th grade wasn't very taxing, I got a lot of Trek in.
I'd nearly forgotten about it. My Dad was just the best Dad ever.....
Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

And wouldn't it be ironic to learn that the Irish had it right, and they're not extraterrestrial a'tall a'tall!Simon H.Johansen wrote:Sharp-Kun has posted an image - and I find it to be interestingly similar to the stereotypical "Grey"-type aliens found in post-TOS sci-fi, alien abduction stories and conspiracy.Raoul Duke, Jr. wrote:Big grey head, nasty scowl, green cat-eyes. The Talosians scared the crap out of you?

They did scare me. I still remember watching that episode one evening and spending the rest of the day thinking about them. My worst fear at the time was meeting a Talosian in person.

Were you scared by their appearance or their behaviour and personality?evilcat4000 wrote:They did scare me. I still remember watching that episode one evening and spending the rest of the day thinking about them. My worst fear at the time was meeting a Talosian in person.
After all - I remember one of the Talosians saying: "The customs and history of your race show a unique hatred for captivity... even when it is pleasant and benevolent, you prefer death!" A potentially frightening sentiment, is it not?

I was very young at the time and did not understand english much. But you are right there was something about the Talosians that even though I could not understand everything they said that made me scared. A pity that such genuiunly scary creatures are a rarity today. The previous sentence also reminds me of Voyger Borg who I watched at 12 years age and laughed. TOS reruns were such fun to watch, I envy those of you watched it back in 1960s and 1970s.Simon H.Johansen wrote:evilcat4000 wrote: After all - I remember one of the Talosians saying: "The customs and history of your race show a unique hatred for captivity... even when it is pleasant and benevolent, you prefer death!" Really?? Until a few months ago, I found images of most "Grey"-type aliens to be so incredibly frightening that I barely could tolerate to look at a drawing of one for more than a few seconds of the time. (For a still unknown reason I wasn't repulsed by the Kaminoans, Monty Burns and the Asgard while I found most other Greys to be such loathsome abominations that I could not bear to look upon them)
And I couldn't find out why... all I knew was that I found their visage to be scary. (Perhaps it was because of the fact that their eyes lack pupils, thus giving them a somewhat "soulless" appearance) And this is from a Lovecraft fan, who's quite accustomed to really weird creatures.
But in the last year or so, things seem to have changed. I don't know exactly why - but in celebration of this overcome Greyophobia I even displayed Jerry The Alien (as I affectionately call that particular specimen adorning the cover of the book "Communion") as my avatar.
Sorry if my rant on Greyophobia seemed strange and off-topic, but in a discussion of sci-fi creatures which scared the hell out of us as children, it has something to do with the subject.
