So are there any actual rules(IE: No rape), or is it "The first person who crosses some undrawn line gets banned, while everyone else learns that poor fools lesson."

Obscenities are defined as things that violate the moral views of the community in which something is published/spoken/made accessible. In this case, it is the community of SD.net. I don't think that a majority of people will think much of anything, here, is inappropriate short of spamming the boards. Thus, I don't think that there are many rules as to what can and cannot be written and posted here, but of course that is subject to future polls and such. It is also important that the piece have "little" value in terms of art or literature. Thus, if there is a sex scene for absolutely no reason that is not well written, that may actually be considered inappropriate under Miller v. California, even if there is a much more graphic and morally questionable scene in another literary venture that is well written, or that breaks new ground in terms of story telling. Thus, the definition of something as an obscenity actually rests as much on how well it is written as it does on how graphic or inappropriate it at first appears.

The poll could probably only be done AFTER the post was already up, unfortunately. We can't really draw any lines, because one of the primary requirements is that an obscenity cannot have serious literary/artistic value, so the story has to both suck AND violate our morale code of conduct.
