Who was(were) the most important member(s) of the TOS crew?

This would be a much more interesting question if it was, "Other than Captain Kirk, who was the most important member of the TOS crew"

The ship operates just fine without Kirk, might I point out that in every other episode the main plot point is that he's stuck on the planet and Spock/Scotty/McCoy/Sulu/Red Shirts have to, and always do, save him? In fact I'd be willing to bet that if Scotty was incharge the entire ship would work to a much greater degree of efficency then it did with Kirk.

Efficiency perhaps, but I think Kirk has the better tactical experience.

Sulu, he drives the ship! Seriously, it's important to have a guy who won't steer the ship into an asteroid or something. Plus he's had more tactical experience than Scotty or anyone else, which makes him more important. Plus, when he's doped up, he ain't scared of a supernova; he said so, himself.

Oh, and he's a fencer.

True, true. But you could also say that if you plugged any other tactically experienced person, the ship would run just as well as it does with Kirk.

I said scotty. While Kirk is the one who runs the ship it is Scotty that makes it go! Without Scotty the ship can not perform as well Kirk wants it to.
