Sovereign successor?

Post by Enola Straight »

Constitution, Excelsior, Ambassador, Galaxy, Sovereign...what comes next on the drawing board?

I remember something called the Nova class, but that ended up being a smaller, simpler version of the Intrepid class. VOY: The Phoenix.

Do we look like seers? How can we know the future?
I think someone once proposed the titan was a brand new class of vessel though.

I doubt that there'll be any successor to the Soverign. The TNG is finished, as the Star Trek franchise should also be.

The Sovereigns too new. It won't have a successor for many decades, so it's hard to forsee it's replacement.

The Nova would be more a replacement for the Oberoths. It's basically just a small ass science vessel.

Titan-class was designed for the successor to the Sovvie. There are dozens of starship designs running around though, much mroe than straight linear progression See http://ussmiranda.com/ships for a fairly exhaustive list (many are non-canon, but it's a good database).

According to whom? Certainly not Paramount, as far as I've heard.

Hell, do we even know the Titan is a new ship class? For all we know it's just the newest Soveriegn class starship to be built. Or maybe even a Galaxy class... we know how much of a hardon Riker had for the Ent-D.

And as a design, it's pretty nasty, I see where they wanted to go, sort of the excelsior upgrade from constitution with sovereign parts, but it looks awful IMO...

Sorry, leap in logic. I'm fairly sure they state that the titan is a new class though, and there are pictures of it on the web. Again, I don't know if they're official or not, but from what I understand it's its own class.

That's a good database. Did they generate the Titan images themselves? That class surely didn't show up in any movies!

Well, they did a good job with the Titan. I don't care if you think the ship looks ugly, its a good quality image whether its a good quality ship or not.

I was refering to some of the ships in general.

But now that I think about it, the Titan does look pretty lame. :P

Oh, no disrespect to the talent, it is a very impressive image and renderings, but in the trek forum, I'm afraid I'm thinking in terms of trek starship design and what I consider to be fitting with what has gone before, not how pretty it looks on the page. :D

Oh, and if you're going to invoke the name of the MR, my official title is El Moose Monstero...

The Nova class is a science ship intended to replace the Oberth class. The future ship you are thinking about is the Nova class USS Rhode Island. It looks a lot like the Sovergein but is smaller and much weaker.

Another Nova class ship was the USS Equinox which was destroyed in the delta quadrant. Juddging by the combat between the Equinox and Voyger the Nova class is fairly strong for its small size.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

That was a two part episode and one of the best Voyger epiosed I say. According to the story the Equinox was trapped in the delta quadrant before Voyger. The Equinox fared worse than the Voyger. After several battles she was badly damaged and trapped in hostile space with many of her crew dead.

So the captain decided to violate directive from there to save ship. He captured some extradimensional lifeforms to power the ships warp core which greatly boosted his FTL speed letting him outrun any pursuers. Eventualy the Equinox met Voyger and when Janeway learned he had violated the prime directive combat ensued.

I doubt theres going to be any real successor any time soon.

More likely the Feds will create a more compact version, along the lines of the Constitution - Miranda, and the Galaxy - Nebula.

Yeah, Sovereign's too new. Unless the Empire invades, at which point they'll have some real motivation.

They will also probobly start mass producing the Defiants and the Akiras. These ships are smaller but more powerful than the Galaxy.
