Speed of the Excelsior

Post by Col. Crackpot »

In STVI:TUC The USS Excelsior begins the movie in "The Beta Quadrant". It was close enough to Praxis as to be tossed about by a massive subspace shockwave. Toward the end of the movie Sulu states to Kirk that they 'may not arrive [to help] in time' 'We're now in Delta Quadrant' We see the Excelsior violently shaking (indicating that she is at full speed) and the helmsman is concenred enough to say "she'll fly apart" to which Sulu responds "Fly her apart then!" They make it to Camp Kithomer in time to aide Kirk and the Enterprise anly a few minutes after the enterprise arrived from Rurapenthe (sp?) Do we know how much time elapsed so that we might determine the speed involved? It seems like a big continuity glitch to me.

However, there is no indication that Excelsior ran home right after the explosion, IIRC.

They were not in the Delta Quadrant.

In a few of the ST galactic maps I've seen, Earth/Sol straddled the line of demarcation between Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
